RM’s debut solo studio album Indigo is here, and fans are already moved by the thoughtful and emotional themes reflected in his poetic lyrics. Listeners will note that the new song he teased with Pharrell isn’t on the album, and that’s because the project has been carefully curated (but fans can definitely expect that collaboration soon).

RM’s “wild flower” meaning
In verse one, RM raps, “Before the start I introduced myself / An ending where I could applaud and smile / That’s what I wished for,” reads YouTube’s English translation. It seems RM hasn’t been able to get to the point where he can look back and applaud and smile yet, and he may never be if he keeps delivering the lines, “Than anything I believed in, grew into the distance / When all this fame turned into shackles / Please take my longing away from me.”
Despite his unfulfilled desires, RM still strives to embrace his true self, and these existential themes echo in Indigo. In the chorus, beautifully sung by Youjeen, RM encourages himself (and by extension his listeners) to shine by lighting up a “flower work”.

The video for “Wild Flower” is a visual masterpiece. It sees RM reciting his verses in various picturesque but caustic locations: the eye of a storm, a dark place where embers of fire fall from the sky, and a crowded stadium – all juxtaposed with shots of the BTS leader standing in a tranquil field of lavender . Appropriately, fireworks explode throughout the video, a callback to RM’s encouraging term “flowerworks.”
