“Gossip Girl” may have just returned for its second season on December 1, but the show’s creator is already thinking about season three. So far we know that Season 2 will bring plenty of drama surrounding Monet’s hostile takeover as well as Aki, Audrey and Max’s complicated throuple relationship – not to mention the return of Georgina Sparks. Viewers still have plenty of episodes to go before the season finale, but showrunner Joshua Safran tells POPSUGAR he’s already started stitching together ideas for the next season.
“Basically, the season premiere of season three happens at the end of season two.”
“We already know what we want to do in season three,” he says, “so hopeful [the reboot will] feels even more like the original [‘Gossip Girl’]Speaking of OG “Gossip Girl,” Safran teases that the reboot’s Season 2 finale will be similar to what OG fans are familiar with from the CW series. However, it will also share some key plot points surrounding Season 3.
“Well, I’m going to say that in the tradition of Gossip Girl of the past, season two resolves its storylines at a certain point in the finale, and then when you think it’s over… basically the season premiere of season three happens at the end of season two,” he shares. “It’s not just five minutes, it’s like a 25-minute season premiere. A lot of things happen, more than I think ever happened in a Gossip Girl episode to the point where when you watch the finale you’ll be like, ‘Oh, I see. It’s almost season three.'”
While HBO Max has yet to revamp the teen drama, it seems fans won’t have to wait too long to find out what happens after the Season 2 finale. But we still have a long way to go before we do, as Season 2 of Gossip Girl wraps up on January 26th.
