Five covers with a wow factor: Vogue sets an example for inclusion

The fashion industry has become more inclusive in recent years, but it is far from representing all groups. That’s what the British “Vogue” thought too and trumps with its May issue with five wow covers that are supposed to change exactly that! The British as well as the German edition of the fashion magazine dedicates its May issue to people who do not meet the typical model criteria. The goal: inclusion of disabled, deaf, mute, short stature or trans* people in the fashion business. Pictured in a wheelchair or with a cane: Aaron Rose Philip, Justina Miles, Ellie Goldstein, Sinéad Burke and Selma Blair.

Edward Enninful, Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue, which is publishing a total of five different covers featuring people experiencing ableism in its May issue, explains his decision in the editorial: “Publishing this issue was a necessary and overdue training for everyone – and has taught us many lessons taught that we will carry with us into the future.” The motto of the issue is “Reframing Fashion”, i.e. giving fashion a new framework.

With the new issue, Ellie Goldstein, model with Down syndrome, adorns the cover of the famous fashion magazine for the second time. It’s also the second cover for Selma Blair, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis five years ago – at the same time. Because the “Ice Cold Angel” star not only adorns the May issue of the British edition, but also the German Vogue. Under the motto “The new female Force”, the 50-year-old talks openly about her illness in the cover story. For the cover, Selma Blair deliberately allowed herself to be photographed with her walking stick: “I think representation is important.”

Lip Bloss: The best of two beauty worlds come together here

Is this a miserable typo? Or why is one now talking full-bodied of “Bloss” instead of the classic “Gloss”? The explanation is as simple as it is simple (and ingenious!): TikToker:innen are currently inspiring with videos about products made of sparkling gloss and a nourishing balm, in short: Lip Bloss!

While the balm cares for the lips with ingredients such as cocoa butter, jojoba oil or shea butter and even protects them from the cold or drying out due to heat, a lip gloss is more responsible for the look. Glitter particles, delicate colors and a high-gloss finish are included here. Anyone who thinks that they have to laboriously mix two products together is wrong. The range of beauty products is now huge among manufacturers. Particularly popular: the “Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump” by Tarte, the “Tinted Lip Balm” by Honest Beauty and the “Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil” by Rare Beauty.
