Selma Blair paid a sweet tribute to longtime friend Sarah Michelle Gellar as she accepted the People’s Choice Award for contestant of 2022 on December 6. Gellar presented Blair with the award in honor of her work on the final season of “Dancing With the Stars.”
Blair began her speech by saying: “Oh my god, the last time I won an award was when I kissed you Sarah. She referenced when the pair won Best Kiss at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards for their lip-locking moment in Cruel Intentions.
After thanking Disney+, her agent and her “DWTS” partner Sasha Farber, Blair returned to Gellar and said, “Really, thank you Sarah for being there for everything I mean to her.” continued, “I’ve been in this city for a long time and I have so many amazing friends who win things like this and it feels so amazing and I can’t believe people gave me something after they gave me something like that There’s been a lot in the last few years of learning how to connect and feel supported by people, and that means so much.”
She also called Farber again and said, “Thanks of course to Sasha for being my partner in this and finding a way to help me move better. So always love for the people who love me, even if it’s my son’s grandmother. Calls every ten minutes.” Blair finished with, “I love you so much Sarah,” before walking off the stage with her friend.
Blair left “DWTS” before she was officially eliminated due to issues surrounding her multiple sclerosis diagnosis. At the time, Gellar shared her support for her friend on Instagram, writing: “Long before @dancingwiththestars I knew you were a ten and now the world knows. Selma, I’ve never been so proud of you (and I’m often proud of you) you make the rest of us think we can do anything. That we can never give up.”
She continued: “And a special thank you to @sashafarber1 for making this experience what it was for James – pure joy. I will miss seeing the happiness Selma exudes each week when she took the stage with you. Thank you for this gift. Speaking of gifts – @selmablair your love and friendship is the greatest gift. I love you Blair.”
