On TLC’s sister wives, Kody’s polygamous life with wives meri, Janelle, Christine, Robyn, and their eighteen children have been documented since 2010, and viewers have joined the Browns through their sprawling family’s roller coaster ride. When navigating so many relationships, things can (and do) get complicated at times. Meri Brown
Kody met his first wife, Meri Brownthrough Meri’s sister in 1990. After a whirlwind romance, the couple were engaged and married within a year when Kody was 21 and Meri was 19. Although Meri and Kody have been married the longest, they only share one child: a daughter, Mariah.
The couple remained legally married until 2014, when Kody divorced Mariah so he could marry his fourth wife. Robyn. Though the couple is still embroiled in a spiritual marriage after over three decades, Meri and Kody have certainly drifted apart; Another of Kody’s wives, Christine, even described Kody and Meri as a “loveless marriage.” In a recent Instagram post, Meri opened up to followers to describe her relationship with Kody as “estranged.” “I know where my relationship is, I’m not aware of it,” Meri admitted in her caption. “I will always look for the best in people and situations and I hope they see it too.”

Janelle Brown
Believe it or not, it was Meri who introduced Kody to his second wife Janelle Brown. Janelle, who “spiritually married” Kody in 1993, has six children with Kody: logan, Hunter, Robert, Gabriel, maddieand savannah.
Sadly, on December 12, 2022, Janelle and Kody announced their separation after nearly 30 years of “marriage.” And while the news was certainly heartbreaking, it wasn’t exactly shocking. They went through tough times during their “spiritual marriage” — especially after the pandemic started. She described their relationship as “strained” and shared that walking away would be “really easy.”
At the time, however, Janelle was still certain about the benefits of plural marriage. “What I hoped polygamy would be like when I was younger ended up being very different from what I actually lived,” she admitted. “But… I have to be present and grateful for the family I have. I am who I am today because of polygamy. Because I lived it.”
But after Christine left the family, Janelle reached her own breaking point with Kody. “I don’t think you and I know how to be honest with each other,” Kody told Janelle in the Season 17 trailer. Janelle admitted, “He no longer acts as my husband here.”
Christine Brown
Trouble in Paradise! Christine Brown, whom Kody met in 1990 and accepted into his plural marriage in 1994, was the first of Kody’s wives to officially separate from him. The couple, whose relationship fans were watching the spiral in real time, announced their split in November 2021 after 25 years of marriage. Tensions between the couple were particularly high in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, when Christine and Kody repeatedly lashed out at his strict rules. Although the pair don’t exactly get along well, Kody emphasized in a statement at the time that they would remain focused on raising their six children, son, together paedon and girls aspyn, Mykelti, Gwendlyn, Ysabel, and For real.
Christine and Kody’s breakup was the main storyline in Season 17 of their reality show. The trailer showed Christine admitting that being Kody’s wife for years has been “heartbreaking.” She also accused him of caring more about Robyn, one of his other wives, than she does. They had a shocking confrontation in front of Robyn, Meri and Janelle.
Robyn Brown
When Robyn Brown met Kody, she saw a chance for a new love and a second act. Robyn, a divorced mother of three, first met Kody at church in 2009 and “spiritually married” a year later. After greeting the daughter’s son Solomon In 2011, Robyn and Kody were legally married in 2014 so Kody could adopt Robyn’s three children from her previous marriage. David, auroraand breanna. Robyn and Kody also welcomed the daughter Ariel in 2016.
Although Robyn was the last of Kody’s loved ones to enter his life, he seems more focused on their relationship than ever.
