To dress up as a villain for Halloween 2022, Keke Palmer is ready to give fans what they want by portraying the icon X-Men character on the big screen. And she wants to do it Channing Tatumwho would play Rogue’s recurring lover Gambit in a standalone film before Disney’s merger with 21st Century Fox in 2019.
“I think me and Channing Tatum will be a perfect match, honey,” said Keke, 29 HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY in discussing their partnership with Doritos for its major ‘Dip’ campaign on its new line of Doritos flavored dips and Big Dip Energy Giveaway.
“I’m ready for him to be my on-screen husband,” he said nope The actress added about Channing, 42. “Or friend, whatever. We don’t even need labels. I’m ready for it.”
Keke explained that Channing “doesn’t take himself too seriously,” but he’s also “pretty lovable as an actor.” Keke believes this combination makes Channing the perfect gambit for her villain when the X-Men (eventually) enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“It’s not that he doesn’t take himself too seriously and he’s like an idiot,” Keke said. “It’s like he doesn’t take himself too seriously, and it’s like, ‘Oh my god, I want to see you win.’ And I think that coupled with my way of saying, ‘Oh, you know, I don’t take myself too seriously. But hey, I’ll do my best,” I think, together we could be fabulous. I already love the casting.”
While Anna Paquin notably played Rogue on Fox’s X-Men films, Channing never got the chance to play Gambit on the big screen. He spoke of feeling “traumatized” after the Gambit film was scrapped in an interview with diversity in February 2022.
“I turned off my Marvel machine. I couldn’t watch any of the movies,” Channing admitted. “I loved this character. It was just too sad. It was like losing a friend because I was so willing to play him.” But Channing confirmed that he would play Gambit if given the chance. “I would like to play Gambit. I don’t think we do [him and his longtime producer partner Reid Carolin] should direct it. I think that was hubris on our part,” he said.
