Kit Harington prepares to dive back in game of Thrones with his upcoming Jon Snow spinoff series, but as he prepares to return to the fantasy world of George RR Martin, he analyzes how his character left it. Harington, who played Jon Snow in all eight seasons of the hugely popular HBO series, reflected on his character’s final moments on the show at the Game of Thrones convention on Sunday (December 11).
I’m thinking about how Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) was killed by Jon last season HaveHarington said his character “got off lightly” despite being sentenced to live on the North Wall after Daenerys’ death.
“I think if you had asked him, he would have felt like he got off lightly,” Harington said per Weekly entertainment. “At the end of the show, when we find him in that cell, he’s preparing to be beheaded, and that’s what he wants. He’s done. That he goes to the wall is the greatest gift and also the greatest curse.”
He continued, “He has to go back to this place with all this history and spend his life thinking about how he killed Dany and spend his life thinking about how Ygritte (Rose Leslie) dies in his arms, and spend his life thinking about how he hung Olly (Brenock O’Connor) and living his life thinking about all that trauma.”
Harington gave a hint at Jon’s state of mind at the end of the show — and what might be in store for his spin-off — adding, “I think where we leave him at the end of the show, there’s always this feeling of … I think.” , we wanted some kind of little smile that things are ok. He does not feel good.”
Martin first confirmed the spin-off of Jon Snow in June, shortly thereafter The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news. The writer revealed the working title for the show was snowbut didn’t share much additional information about the project.
“There’s not much more I can tell you, not until HBO gives me the green light,” Martin wrote, but noted, “Yeah, it was Kit Harrington who gave us the idea. I can’t give you the names of the writers/showrunners as this isn’t cleared for publication yet… but Kit brought them too, his own team, and they’re great.
