It’s the world of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, we just live in it. The famous couple have been making waves with their new docuseries on Netflix Harry & Megan. Given they’re all the rage right now, we’re all wondering: how much did the ex-royal couple cost the streamer?
The six-part series debuts in two parts, with the first three episodes arriving on the streamer today (December 8). Directed by Liz Carbus, the series revolves around the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they open up about their time as royals and their strained relationship with the press. Her accounts are supported by archival footage and interviews with her friends, families, and historians.
The Logline teases, “The series explores the clandestine days of their early courtship and the challenges that led them to feel compelled to step down from their full-time roles at the institution,” according to Netflix.
The two tend to keep their deals to themselves and haven’t given much insight into their Netflix deal, which was signed in September 2020. However, it was reported that it came with a $100 million price tag — a number that reflected The cut‘s August profile of Markle.
The royal couple’s multi-year deal with Netflix (which has been shaky at times) sees them produce a variety of programming under their production company Archewell Productions, including documentaries, docuseries, movies, scripted shows and children’s content for Netflix. Since announcing the deal, the streaming giant has experienced some major budget cuts that have brought Markle’s animated series with them pearl canceled and for unknown reasons Harry’s documentary, Heart of Invictus (announced in April 2021), is yet to confirm release dates.
When Markle was questioned by The cut She didn’t reveal much about her and Harry’s deal with the streamer and their then-unconfirmed documentation.
“Meghan says she will let her publicist and Netflix decide what gets shared,” the outlet wrote.
The couple’s Netflix deal isn’t their only way to make millions. The two also agreed $25 million deal with Spotifywhere Markle is currently hosting her headline-grabbing podcast, archetypes.
We may not know the exact numbers Netflix offered Markle and Harry for their tell-all series, but we do do know that media companies aren’t afraid to spend the big bucks to hear their prospects.
