It’s the season that gives on. And we’re not talking about the horribly crowded shopping malls, road accidents caused by inclement weather, or mind-numbing Christmas carols that get hammered into your brain and play on a never-ending loop. No – we’re talking about Christmas treats.
When you celebrate Christmas, you definitely have some core memories of enjoying special foods at this time of year. I remember the nights I made Swiss Miss hot chocolate and tried way too hard to make it look photogenic for Instagram. I would try multiple times, swirling a perfect layer of whipped cream on top, adding peppermint bark shavings with a cheese grater, dipping in a candy cane on the side, and tossing in some marshmallows for goodies. I would then flop down in front of the TV and watch A Charlie Brown Christmas, a fluffy blanket on my lap and a purring cat by my side. Ahh, those were simpler times.
As adults, Christmas is often associated with a great deal of anxiety, whether it’s over the state of our bank accounts after shopping or traveling for hours only to be verbally abused by extended family members at the gathering. But amid all of this, there are still ways to enjoy Christmas as we get older, and that is by treating ourselves to a little treat. It could be anything from a gingerbread cookie to a Little Debbie Christmas tree cake – whatever your snack of choice, savor every bite and be transported back to the good old days.
There’s a lot of pressure to feel joy about the holidays, but sometimes it’s okay to just enjoy the little things. Here are some of our favorite classic Christmas gifts in beautiful ink shapes to help get you in the mood this year. If you don’t mind, I’ll make myself a hot chocolate now.
