Netflix’s teen series Heartstopper has been winning hearts far and wide, and fans can rejoice now that production for Season 2 has officially wrapped, meaning its return can’t be that far away . On December 2, Netflix posted a photo of actors Kit Connor and Joe Locke with author Alice Oseman on Instagram along with the caption, “And this is a conclusion to Heartstopper Season 2… à bientôt! 🍂”
The French phrase, which translates to “see you soon,” makes perfect sense considering the cast were spotted filming in Paris. Also, Heartstopper is based on Oseman’s series of graphic novels, and in the next volume, the characters travel to the city of love. While no official release date has been announced, Oseman also took to Instagram to tell his followers, “This is a conclusion to Heartstopper Season 2! met these challenges with so much passion, skill and determination. A huge thank you to every single member of the cast and crew – everyone worked incredibly hard and gave their all and I am eternally grateful for that. This season is going to be so magical and I can’t wait to start post-production! 🍂🌈”
Fans have had hope for the potential for additional seasons since the series ended on April 22, citing the show’s extensive source material as a compelling reason to keep going. Not long after, the streamer announced that the charming show would be getting a second and third season to further explore the lives of Nick, Charlie and their friends.
As the characters we’ve come to love return, Netflix revealed there are some new faces around Truham Grammar High School. There are four new characters including Sahar Zahid (played by Leila Khan) as a Higgs student, David Nelson (played by Jack Barton) as Nick’s older brother, James McEwan (played by Bradley Riches) as a Truham student and Mr Farouk ( played by Nima Taleghani) as the Truham teacher.

The first season of the Netflix adaptation primarily includes the plot from the first two volumes of the book series. With a total of four volumes and volume 5 (currently planned as the last volume) scheduled for a 2023 release datethat leaves two more volumes of material already released, plus one more to be released soon, which could make up the bulk of the next two seasons.
Before announcing the upcoming seasons, the show’s creative team hinted at where the show would go next. “I definitely want to bring in the mental health themes because that’s something that’s really important in the books,” Oseman said Digital Spy on April, 24th. “The challenge in writing ‘Heartstopper’ is exploring these darker themes while keeping the tone as upbeat and hopeful as it is possible. I feel like I achieved it in the books.
Oseman also revealed that the scope of the story will likely expand in future seasons to include some of the teachers, not just the teenage students who have been the focus of the show so far. “We’re going to move on to volume three of the books. And then the teacher romance happens,” Oseman said in the April 24 interview. “So in the show we already have Mr. Ajayi, but in the books we also have Mr. Farouk coming in in volume three. And they have this kind of interesting friendship behind them that eventually grows into something more.”
Though release dates for the show’s second and third seasons have yet to be confirmed, fans can rejoice knowing that Heartstopper’s on-screen story is far from over.
