In a post on her Instagram Stories, Hailey Bieber said she’s dealing with something many of her followers can probably relate to: an ovarian cyst.
Hailey, 26, posted a photo of herself showing her stomach on Monday night, telling her followers she’s been battling pain, nausea, bloating and cramps from an ovarian cyst “the size of an apple.”
“I have an apple sized cyst on my ovary,” she wrote over the photo of herself. “I don’t have endometriosis or PCOS, but I’ve contracted an ovarian cyst a few times and it’s never fun. It hurts and hurts me and I feel nauseous and bloated and spasmodic and emotional.”
According to that Mayo Clinic, ovarian cysts are common and often harmless. In fact, many people have an asymptomatic ovarian cyst that goes away on its own within a few months. A larger cyst, like Hailey said, can cause pelvic pain and bloating, according to the Mayo Clinic. While these types of cysts may not cause any health complications, they can sometimes rupture or cause the ovary to twist, which can cause more serious problems.
Because ovarian cysts are so common, Hailey wrote in her post that she’s sure some of her followers understand her pain.
“I’m sure many of you can relate and understand excessively,” she wrote. “We have that.”
This isn’t the first time Hailey has spoken out about her health. Earlier this year, Hailey announced that she had surgery to repair a hole in her heart after suffering a mini-stroke. “Definitely the scariest moment of my life,” she said of the stroke. At the same time, her husband Justin Bieber is dealing with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, a condition that can cause partial facial paralysis as a result of the virus that causes chickenpox and shingles. Justin had to expose his world tour to recover.
