The Georgia Senate Runoff: Why It Matters to Democrats, the Senate and Georgians +2023

And that matters not only for this election cycle, but also for the next. A Warnock victory will provide some cushioning for the Democrats seek to defend 23 of the 33 Senate seats are up for election in 2024.

Yes, it’s clear that the results of this Georgia Senate race will likely impact folks across the country, but it’s also worth noting that it will impact those of us most who call the peach state home. Pastor Warnock, pastor from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic Ebenezer Baptist Church has pushed for legislation to help veterans and your partner access to benefits, capping insulin cost and fight climate change.

Then there are walkers. If it was him saying COVID-19 was created by China or its dissemination many nonsensical, restrictiveand harmful Platforms and positions, these are signs that a Walker win could be disastrous. He did that too NOT CORRECT and misleading Statements about his own background and experience: He said he graduated from the University of Georgia he did not do it; meaning he had a military career that he did not do it. And his family publicly accused him of it violent and abusive. (Walker has denied abuse allegations.)

In addition, Walker has expressed support for a Total ban on abortion – Ironically, several women have accused the candidate Putting pressure on them to have abortions, one of which claims Walker drove her to the procedure. (Walker denies this accusations also.) Nonetheless, four years of Trump is proof that in a country like this, a man like Walker can very well be elected leader.

We recently saw Stacey Abrams – one of our country’s most well-known pro-suffrage advocates and organizers – lose her second run for governor in Georgia. It was particularly heartbreaking for many Georgians like me. But not surprising. Again and again it became painfully clear that our beloved state is inhabited by millions of people whose interests are Not for our society to advance as a whole; People who fear that liberation and equality for all will be somehow violated of their own accord.

There are far too many white, cisgender, straight Americans who seem to think that those who don’t share that identity don’t deserve rights and autonomy. (I know Walker is black but famous as Zora Neale Hurston said“All my skinfolk are not my relatives.”) The work of Abrams, Warnock and the many local organizers fighting for the rights of Everyone Georgians is a testament to our tenacity and impact.

It was 1995 when Atlanta’s very own André 3000 proclaimed, “The South has something to say.” He was right. The south has always had something to say. To those on the outside looking in, I hope you’re listening. To dismiss the power, influence and influence of this region – and Georgia in particular – is a mistake.

Georgians: That is crucial runoff is on Tuesday, December 6th. Early Voting is now underway, and times and places vary by county.
