Actor Al Strobel best known for his role as Philip Gerard in the 1990’s cult classic twin peaksHe died at the age of 83.
Producer and longtime collaborator of David Lynch, Sabrina Sutherland, announced the news on Saturday on Facebook Saturday.
“I am saddened to report that Al Strobel passed away last night. I loved him dearly,” Sutherland wrote.
The actor, who lost his left arm in a car accident when he was 17, has appeared in every iteration of twin peaks as Gerard – a man who chopped off his arm to prevent an evil entity from possessing it.
Strobel had appeared in a handful of other titles throughout his career, including the 1990s Megaville alongside Billy Zane and Ricochet River with Kate Hudson. Strobel had retired in the early 2000s but briefly re-entered acting to resume his role as Gerard on Showtime Twin Peaks: The Return.
The 2017 series, which ran 9 episodes out of 18, was Strobel’s last on-screen appearance.
Shortly after Sutherland shared the sad news on Facebook, tributes poured in for the actor from the United States twin peaks crew and fans alike.
“Oh no…Dear Al…” wrote series co-creator Mark Frost, paying tribute to his dear friend on Twitter. “As those of you who have been fortunate enough to have met him over the years, what a warm and wonderful gentleman he was. RIP friend.”
Dana Ashbrook, who played Bobby Briggs, also took to Twitter to mourn the loss of Strobel, writing, “Sad sad news… dear Al. He was the sweetest of all men.”
