Backstage. Megan Markle and Prince Harry give fans an unprecedented glimpse into their lives in their new Netflix Documentary, Harry & Megan. That first follower as the film was released on Thursday December 1st and offers just a hint of what is to come in the highly anticipated documentary. The subtle teaser featured a collection of never-before-seen photos of the couple, including several of them kissing.
The trailer begins by showing the couple’s vacation and adventures, set to a somber piano song punctuated by the sounds of camera shutters. Harry and Meghan shared a special photo full of joy, kissing while saying goodbye to a fancy event. Pictures continue to flash, showing Prince Harry and Meghan dancing at their wedding, before a snap of Meghan cradling her pregnant belly in front of the sunset.
“No one sees what goes on behind closed doors,” Harry says via voiceover. The audio darkens, revealing a photo of Prince William and Kate Middleton they offered some stern looks while the Sussexes sat behind them. A grumpy photo of Meghan was followed by a shot of the paparazzi constantly swarming the couple.
The scene moves to Harry, in color, seated for an interview. Hinting at why he and Meghan decided to leave their royal duties behind, he said: “I had to do everything I could to protect my family.”
More photos whizzed by before Meghan wiped tears from her eyes as she sat on a couch next to Harry. The screen goes black before she reappears in front of the camera, looking elegant in an evergreen sweater with perfectly styled brunette locks. Explaining her decision to do the document, Meghan asked, “When the stakes are so high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex share the other side of their high-profile love story in the six-part series. It examines the clandestine days of their early courtship and the challenges that led them to feel compelled to step down from their full-time roles at the institution.
With commentary from friends and family members, most of whom have never before spoken publicly about what they saw, and historians debating the state of the British Commonwealth today and the Royal Family’s relationship with the press, the series does not shed light just a couple’s love story, it paints a picture of our world and how we relate to each other. A release date has yet to be determined.
