Being a new parent is difficult, and returning to work after welcoming your baby for the first time can be even more difficult. Sarah Haine spoke about how Katherine, 44, brought Naleigh, 14, onto the classic talk show a decade ago. After reflecting on the past performance, the actress got emotional as she recalled what it was like when she and her husband were together Josh Kelly had her daughter first. “Naleigh came to us at nine months and three days later I got on a plane and flew to Atlanta to work and at the time when I became a new mom I was like, ‘I get it. I understand it. I can handle it. They told us we can have it all. We can have careers and families and everything will be great. Everything will work out.’ I never saw the baby,” she said.
Katherine went on and said that as she worked on it greys, She bonded more with triplets acting on set than her own daughter, and she revealed some of her fears. “I was at work with three triplets who played my goddaughter and I spent more time with them than my new daughter and she became friends with my husband. Of course he was with her. So I was always afraid that I missed this opportunity to really connect with her,” she said. “And that she didn’t love me.”
Thankfully, it’s clear that all this time later, Katherine and her daughter share a special love for one another. Naleigh was in the show’s audience to support them Firefly Lane Star. Shortly after welcoming her daughter, the actress finally left after all Grey’s anatomy in 2010. She recently reflected on returning as Izzie Stevens in a January 2021 interview with E!’s Daily Pop. She said, “Never say never,” but also said, “You know, I just don’t know.”
In addition to Naleigh, Katherine and her husband have another daughter and a son. After Naleigh, the actress and musician adopted a second daughter adelaide, 10, in April 2012, and Katherine gave birth to a son Joshua, 5, in December 2016.
