yellowstoneThe preview of Season 5 Episode 7 of is here. And let’s just say the Dutton family is in for trouble.
Warning: spoilers ahead!
In Season 5, Episode 6, “Cigarettes, Whiskey, A Meadow And You,” we saw John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and the rest of his cattle herding crew spend two pretty darn near-perfect days of riding, connecting, partying, and finally the Brandings had the cattle. Out in the fields, however, John unexpectedly bids farewell to his old friend Emmett Walsh (Buck Taylor), who died in his sleep under a tree during their journey. “Well, I couldn’t have dreamed of a better death if you’d paid me,” John said before running back to the ranch to break the news to Emmett’s wife and comfort her.
The episode also starred Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) – dreamily as ever – spending some time together in nature, Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Sarah (Dawn Olivieri) mixing business and pleasure, Summer ( Piper Perabo) and Monica (Kelsey Asbille) meet at the ranch, and Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) prepares for an impromptu presidential visit, along with a fight against rival Martin Kills Many (Christian Wassana).
We watched as Kayce (Luke Grimes) and Tate (Brecken Merrill) fell in love with the lifestyle of John Dutton. We got wind of a potential John/Summer/Lynelle (Wendy Moniz-Grillo) love triangle at the branding ceremony. And we’ve seen Ryan (Ian Bohen) and Abby (Lainey Wilson) take their flirtation to the next level.
Episode 6 was packed with important scenes. But the Season 5 Episode 7 preview heralds much more drama. We’ll have to wait until Sunday to see exactly how high the stakes will be raised. But until then, we have Paramount Network’s latest preview trailer to ponder. We’re here to break down yellowstone‘s Episode 7 preview frame by frame.
What is inside yellowstone Season 5 Episode 7 Preview?
Next time on yellowstone, we can expect trouble brewing for the Dutton family. The Season 5 Episode 7 Preview begins with John on horseback and a voiceover from Costner saying, “This is my favorite part…of everything we do. That’s my favorite.”
We see Rip and Kayce on horseback while more cattle are herded. Kayce rides toward John, Rip, and two others, and we hear him say, “I found something you might want to see.”
The preview cuts to John horseback riding at the ranch, then we see him and Beth having drinks inside. “Your business plan – this will be the end of us, Dad,” Beth tells him.
Meanwhile, Jamie is fully dressed in his office. He sits across from Sarah and another person and we hear Dawn Olivieri’s voice deliver the following warning: “The future of the cattle industry is not a future. Your state will be on the hook for around $4 billion.”
A fast-paced supercut shows Jamie poring over papers with a hand to his chin, Lynelle at her desk talking to Rainwater and looking stressed, John at the ranch talking to a blonde woman, Rip talking to Lloyd (Forrie J . Smith) chats, and a man (who appears to be Rip) walking away from a worried-looking Kayce.
In another voiceover, Olivieri can be heard delivering the line, “Sounds like an indictment to me.” We see Jamie banging his hands on the ground in frustration, and a stone-faced John walking in the dark sits, his face faintly illuminated by a warm light.
The preview ends with a shot of Sarah and Jamie staring at each other in front of a window. Presumably in response to her earlier statement about what sounds like an indictment, Jamie simply says, “Yes, it does.”
Where should I stop this? yellowstone Season 5 Episode 7 Preview?
As always, it’s difficult to glean too much detail from the Season 5 Episode 7 preview as we’re getting a mix of short clips that aren’t necessarily contextually aligned. But here are some moments in the preview that are worth a second look.
- What did Kayce find? The possible answers to this question are endless, but while we wait to find out, it’s worth noting Kayce’s personality transformation in Episode 6. After Monica’s accident and the need to bury her son, Kayce told John that he wanted to step down as cattle commissioner. After Monica encouraged him not to quit — because the job didn’t cost her her son — she suggested the family get involved in the cattle brandy, so Kayce and Tate rode off with John and the rest of the ranch hands. In Episode 6, Monica tells Summer that Kayce no longer wants to inherit the ranch, but while they’re on their expedition, it’s clear that Kayce and Tate are enjoying themselves. The two ride horses, have good father-son conversations, and Kayce teaches Tate how to herd cattle. “We needed that,” Kayce tells his father. And as John explains: “You could sell it, son. You could bottle it and sell it,” Kayce replies, “I don’t think you can sell it anywhere. Anyone who knows what it’s worth is already doing it.” Watching Tate enjoying the lifestyle of John Dutton and taking solace in nature after the tragedy, it seems like Kayce is slipping back into the life of a cowboy falling in love. It’s clear his wheels are turning, so maybe he’ll soon be reevaluating his role in the family and his involvement with the ranch.
- Another warning from Beth: From the daughter, who has already warned John about Summer’s presence at the ranch this season, comes another vague warning that his business plan will be the end of them. What is this business plan? Is Beth right? And will John finally listen to her? It looks like things will get even more tumultuous for the Dutton family in Season 5.
- Sarah and Jamie: Dynamic Duo or Fucking Duo? yellowstone Teasers make it exceptionally difficult to tell if Jamie is on Sarah’s team or played by her, and the Episode 7 preview is no different. In a minute, Sarah says, “The future of the cattle industry is no future. Your state will be on the hook for around $4 billion,” and Jamie looks defeated. Next, the two stand together and are aroused by “chargeable crimes.” What’s her deal?! In Episode 6, Jamie asked if Sarah had any ulterior motives about sleeping with him and she assured him that she just wanted to be with him. In response, Jamie relents and says, “Help me win the governor and I’ll give you your airport.” I don’t think any of us are convinced that Sarah is dating Jamie just because of Jamie, which means, that there’s still a chance all this conspiracy will come back to bite him in the end.
- “Chargeable Offense”: The preview ends with a shot of Sarah and Jamie staring at each other in front of a window, rejoicing at finding “a crime with no charge”. (Probably one committed by John!) Can they find out anything about the wolves? Summer? Something else?! John, watch out!
