Who is Justine Jordan? Firefly Lane?
At the beginning of Season 2 Episode 1, Tully is being served while stocking up on ice cream in the freezer. After leaving The girlfriend hour Behind that, she’s being sued for a whopping $10 million, which she admits will leave her in financial distress.
While consoling Kate and trying to make sure Johnny is okay after his explosion in Iran, Tully gets a call from an energetic, ambitious woman named Justine Jordan who wants to be her new agent. She throws some ideas in Tully’s way, but Tully doesn’t know who to trust right now. But Purdy’s charm, shining through Justine’s scenes, is so delightful that you can’t help but want her around.
Tully hires Justine and she hits the ground running, while working to get the lawsuit dismissed she’s also trying to find work for Tully that doesn’t violate the terms of the ridiculous non-compete non-compete agreement she signed that keeps her off television for a year. She initially pitches some crazy ideas, including a hosting gig for a reality dating show called I would hit thatbut finally she finds the solution: the internet.
Justine encourages Tully to create her website and suggests starting blogging and vlogging. Tully finds the idea ridiculous, but Justine claims that the internet is “the future of media and entertainment,” and boy was she right. Tully eventually agrees to try the site after learning that even her mother posts astrology vlogs online, and the new business venture ends up attracting a huge following and helping her process her emotions. Thank you Justine!
Though she doesn’t want to be Tully’s friend outside of the Tully Hart Media Empire (aka Tully’s New Apartment), Justine is a positive, warm addition to the Firefly Lane Crew and has Tully’s back when it matters most. When Tully wants to build a case against Wilson King – the old boss who tried to sleep with her earlier in her career – and find other women willing to speak up, Justine offers her support. When Tully turns down a job offer from King, Justine is there to support her. And after the accident that derailed Justine’s career and friendship with Kate, Justine immediately goes into damage control mode.
It seems like we all need a Justine in our lives. But she has to be as cute, funny and badass as Jolene Purdy.
