There are many aspiring singers making their mark today, however Lauren Spencer Smith, 19, simply has that very special sparkle. She is a Canadian singer and songwriter who was born in Portsmouth, United Kingdom but grew up on Vancouver Island. 1. Lauren Spencer Smith competed on American Idol
Before laying tracks in the studio, Lauren sang her heart out american idol Stage in 2020. During the show’s 18th season, Lauren was just 16 years old and has since achieved worldwide fame for her music. “Vancouver Island isn’t too big an island, not that many people,” she said during her audition for the show. “I feel like a very little girl with a big dream and stuff american idol will help me in so many different ways to make this dream come true.”
Country Singers & american idol Judge Luke Bryan was even speechless after hearing Lauren sing pink‘s song “What About Us”. “Wow, I can’t speak,” Luke said. “I find your voice SUPER interesting. You have this tone that makes us very intrigued by you.” Lauren later finished in the top 20 in the competition.
2. She’s a Taylor Swift fan
Although Lauren is a singer herself, she is often inspired by other talented musicians such as Taylor Swift. On October 24, 2022, the 19-year-old took to Instagram to share a video of herself doing a cover of Taylor’s song “Wildest Dreams,” which was first released in 2014. “One year ago today it’s a coincidence that it’s a Taylor song and she just released her new album,” the star captioned the clip. Her friends, who are also singers, were also spotted singing in the clip, including Geena Fontanella and Leyla Blue.
3. Lauren has a boyfriend
The singer also announced that she has a boyfriend on November 26, 2022, although she released a breakup record that same month. “I’m writing a Christmas song about being single but having a boyfriend.” the clip read. She also added the Instagram caption, “I may have been single b4 but that’s ironic.” Lauren tagged “@mattodelll,” which was the guy who hugged Lauren from behind in the adorable post.
4. She has achieved massive success on Spotify
Lauren recently appeared on american idol in 2020, but she’s already one of the most listened to artists on Spotify. “This year’s Spotify packaging is insane. I always kept mine from previous years and it’s so cool to see how much everything has grown and how much we’ve accomplished,” she captioned the fixed post. “I love you guys so much, you guys are the only reason I get to do what I do for a job and I couldn’t be more thankful for you guys, this whole year has been the craziest of all, I have no words except thank you until eternity.” It’s important to note that Lauren’s stream count was 5.4 million in 2020, and that number grew to 464.3 million in 2022.
5. The musician is being considered for Grammys
As if Lauren hadn’t impressed the world enough, she announced October 19, 2022 that she will be considered for Grammys next year. “As a little girl, I dreamed so many times about one day being a singer-songwriter that more people than my mom heard in the living room or in the car,” her sweet caption began. “’Fingers Fingers’ was a turning point in my life that I had worked so hard towards. With the help of so many friends, artists, producers and writers, I was finally able to figure out what I wanted out of my sound as an artist.” Lauren is considered for Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
