It’s that time again for HBO Max. After irking fans by ripping a slew of animated series from its library this summer, the streamer is at it again, but this time they’re pulling some prestige picks. Both western world and The Nevers leaving HBO Max, meeting reports.
western world, which was once a crown jewel of HBO was canceled last month after four seasons meanwhile the nevers, A Victorian sic-fi series from controversial creator Joss Whedon gets the ax midway through its first season — the first half of the first season premiered on HBO Max in 2021, while the second half was set to premiere next year.
While western world was finally done when HBO Max decided to remove the series from its library, The Nevers was reportedly done with the second half of the first season. But sources told Deadline that the show will likely release the new episodes on a new platform, with the outlet noting, “It’s going to end up in the show’s new home now, whatever that is. The storyline was designed to end with Season 1B.”
It’s still TBD as far as this new home goes, but Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has hinted at his company’s plans to explore FAST channels, or free, ad-supported streaming TV western world and The Nevers could end up on such a channel, by deadline.
While western world and The Nevers met their end at HBO Max, they are not alone. Three other popular series are also leaving the streamer, including HBO Max Originals bitch and love lifeplus Chronicles of Gorditawhich was canceled by HBO after its first season and is now leaving the platform entirely, as confirmed by creator Claudia Forestieri.
“Looks like this weekend will be the last hooray for #GORDITACHRONICLES,” Forestieri tweeted. “Watch now before it evaporates from @hbomax. *I’m trying really hard not to be bitter about this latest insult, but seriously, it feels like an EX is destroying your photos to ERASE you from memory…”
bitch Creator Ellen Rapoport also addressed the cancellation of her series on Twitter. bitchwhich had been renewed for Season 2 in May, was planning to wrap up production when Warner Bros. Discovery decided to end the show, per diversity.
“Of course I’m disappointed the bitch (along with several other shows to be announced) is leaving HBO Max. I’m proud of the show we’ve made and confident that audiences will come to our new home with us,” Rapoport wrote. “Thank you to the best cast and crew in the business.”
love life, a series starring Anna Kendrick in the first season and William Jackson Harper in the second, was also mourned by its creator. Sam Boyd shared, “I’m amazed it’s such a thing now It can happen! I’ll try to find another place for it to live so it doesn’t just **no longer exist**, but no matter what, I’m so proud of it and so grateful to everyone who worked on it and everyone who have worked on it looked. This show changed my life.”
