Viola Davis and daughter Genesis at the awards dinner +2023

Viola Davis’ family celebrated the actor’s many accomplishments on December 11. Her husband, Julius Tennon, and daughter, Genesis Tennon, attended the Public Counsel’s annual William O. Douglas Award Dinner honoring “The Woman King” star with Davis. Former costar and friend Octavia Spencer presented Davis with the title award in honor of her commitment to community causes.

For the red carpet event, The First Lady actor looked elegant in a black halterneck dress with gold chain straps. Next to her, Genesis posed in a purple velvet dress while Julius wore a smart burgundy suit with a printed tie. Although Genesis isn’t often in the spotlight, the 12-year-old has been accompanying her mother to several events lately. She attended the world premiere party of The Woman King with her parents in September 2022 and a pre-Emmys party with Davis in September 2021.

After marrying in 2003, the couple adopted Genesis in 2011 as a toddler. Although she’s only 12, the budding star has already made her screen debut — she voiced in 2019’s The Angry Birds Movie 2. Davis is also a stepmother to Julius’ two children from a previous relationship.
