A new show on Investigation Discovery sheds some of the mystery surrounding the phenomenon that was the television show joy. the price of joy a three-part documentary series, will not only focus on the series’ rapid rise, but also its darker side by dealing with the deaths of three of its main cast: Naya Rivera, Cory Monteith and Mark Salling.
A dramatic trailer for the series was released today and features plenty of interviews joy-Neighboring characters but no actual cast members.
At one point in the trailer, Rivera’s father — whose daughter died in a tragic drowning accident in 2020 — says to the camera, “Fame can be poisonous.” Another subject is Stephen Kramer Glickman, best known for his role in the Nickelodeon series is known big time RushShe says: “My first reaction is guilt. I still feel like someone is to blame.”
Other topics talk about Monteith, who died of a drug overdose in 2013, and Mark Salling, who died by suicide in 2017 after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.
While the themes in the trailer have a lot to say joy, it’s unclear if the people who experienced the show firsthand are actually involved in this new docuseries as there’s no trace of them. in the last few months, joy had a moment on social media when two of the former cast members even started a podcast with the title And that’s what you really missed to give Gleeks a behind-the-scenes look.
joy Fans are already striking The Price of Joy on social media, with tweets flooding in after the trailer was released about how “disgusted” they are with the show.
joy was founded in 2009 by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk and centered on a fictional high school glee club called New Directions in Ohio. The show launched the careers of several today’s stars, including Lea Michele, Darren Criss and Amber Riley. Other stars of the show included Mathew Morrison and Jane Lynch, as well as guest stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and John Stamos.
