The Masked Singer closed the Season 8 chapter with an epic family. The Lambs faced off against Harp for the Golden Mask trophy. The Lambs finished as season 8 runners-up and were revealed as the pop group of the ’90s Wilson Phillips. HollywoodLife spoke EXCLUSIVELY carnia and Wendy Wilson about their experience as the lambs.
“There are many different TV opportunities and opportunities that artists have. I find the whole element of surprise so appealing. It is so much fun. It’s so unique that if we didn’t, it’s like we’d regret it,” Carnie said. “And let’s be honest, it’s a wonderful way to get attention, especially with a group like ours, which we’ve been involved with for over three decades. It’s pretty flattering that a major network, a very popular TV show, wants to hear you sing again.”
She continued, “We’ve never done anything like this, right? It’s something you wouldn’t normally do in your life, and it takes you out of your comfort zone when you do something like this. It’s good to challenge yourself. I think we all wanted to adopt that until we got into the costume. We went out the first day and Wendy and I were like, ‘We want out! We can’t do this.” It was so damn hard. It was like a 12 hour day and a day off in between, half a day. It was so hard. It was exhausting, but it was worth it in the end.”
Carnie revealed that she was “offered a couple of times” to come on the show as a solo actress, but she “just didn’t feel right about doing it alone. I think I was just too scared to be honest. I have stage fright, believe it or not, especially when it comes to singing. I feel very insecure and it’s just my own demons.”
Even though the “Hold On” singers didn’t walk away with the Golden Mask trophy, Wendy said HollywoodLife that they were “just honored to end up in this position. We didn’t know who Harp was [Glee alum Amber Riley]but we knew she had a great voice and that we were dealing with someone who was really, really strong.”
The group recently released a cover of the Harry Styles Melody “Boyfriends”. Wendy said they “couldn’t think of a more perfect song than this song for us to sing.” She also pointed out that Wilson Phillips “hasn’t done any original music in a very long time,” but the show made her “think it might be time to do that.” Carnie added, “It could be the catalyst.”
