director Taylor Swift is the focus of the behind-the-scenes video for her All too good: the short film Movie. Tay released the BTS footage on December 8th, more than a year after the short’s release. The seven-minute clip shows Taylor bringing her vision to life Sadie Sink and Dylan o’brien -> actor main actor in the video. Taylor guides the actors through each scene, instructing them on how everything should play out, but also giving them the freedom to showcase their own acting skills.
In a clip from the song’s second verse, Taylor instructs Dylan and Sadie on how to behave during one of the song’s most iconic lines: “And you were tosting me the car keys, f*** the patriarchy keychain on the ground . She physically shows Dylan how to throw the keys and informs Sadie how to react before getting in the car.
Another scene shows Taylor staging Dylan, Sadie, and a group of extras at a dinner party. She’s extremely specific and intricate in how she wants the scene to play out, and everyone delivers. At one point, Sadie Taylor gushes about how awesome this project was, and the two embrace in a sweet hug.
At the end of filming, Taylor herself appears in the short as the older version of Sadie’s character, so she takes on double duty. Her enthusiasm for bringing the project to life is contagious. Once filming is complete, Taylor spends time going through the footage scene by scene to make sure everything fits with the story being told in the song’s lyrics.
Taylor released All too good: the short film along with the re-release of their album Red in November 2021. On the re-recorded version of the album, Taylor re-recorded the original full ten-minute version of “All Too Well”, truncated from the original version to just over five minutes Red. It has become a fan-favorite song in the years since is red Originally released in 2012, Taylor made the 10-minute version extra special for her fans by also including a short film. The film has won multiple awards, including a VMA and an AMA, and is a 2023 Grammy nominee. Although Taylor has never confirmed who is in the song about her, all signs point to her ex. Jake Gyllenhaalwith whom she was dating in 2010 and early 2011.
Of her decision to release the behind-the-scenes footage, Taylor went on to explain Instagram, “The first seeds of this short film were sown over ten years ago and I will never forget the moment behind the scenes of the shoot. I owe it all to Sadie Sink, Dylan O’Brien, my incredible DP Rina Yang and my producer Saul Germaine. I also want to thank our wonderful cast and crew for bringing this story to life so naturally. I loved every second of it and will always remember it all. To. Spring.”
