“[Two] whole years! can you believe it!!” Laurie Hernandez posted to her Instagram on December 5th, and for some – no, they couldn’t believe it. “What rock have I been under?” asked one fan, who was shocked to learn that 22-year-old Laurie was celebrating her two-year anniversary with another gymnast Charlotte Drury. In the photo posted to IG, Charlotte, 26, kissed Laurie on the cheek as the two stood on a dock somewhere. Both were dressed for the winter weather, but Laurie wasn’t letting the cold shake him, judging by the smile on her face.
“Congratulations dream team,” the actor wrote Barton Cowperthwaite. Monique Coleman left a series of red heart emojis. We the duo wrote: “Happy anniversary, lovelies!” JoJo Siwa commented, “I’m obsessed.” Others were surprised — “HOW DID I NOT KNOW,” one asked — but most fans were happy for Laurie and Charlotte. “I love you both so much. Happy birthday to two of my favorite people,” one fan commented.
This is the first time Laurie has confirmed her relationship with Charlotte. In October, the gold medalist spoke PERSONS and said she was “taken” by a photographer but did not name Charlotte. At the time, she said she’d been dating her “partner” for less than two years and that “life is really good.” Charlotte has appeared on many of Laurie’s social media posts — and vice versa — including the March 2022 TikTok where Laurie learned she was getting accepted into NYU’s Tish School of the Arts.
Laurie won gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She also won Season 23 of Dancing with the stars this year. Outside of gymnastics, she has pursued an acting career, including voicing the character Valeria on Nickelodeon Middle school moguls. “My character, Valeria, who is mostly called Val, is also an athlete, which is a fun coincidence,” Laurie said HollywoodLife in 2019. “She’s basically creating and this little mogul school recruiter is recruiting her to come to mogul academy for the summer to try and start her own business and she meets a lot of great people along the way. “
“There were many things that really attracted me. I think too, you know, especially the fact that Val is Hispanic, she’s with her dad, and she’s able to do something that she and her dad are passionate about, it’s really encouraging for her, and he wants to help her with that.” said Laurie HL. “I love that kids can watch someone create something and I hope it inspires them to try something new.”
