How I Met Your Father Season 2 Release Date, Cast, Trailer +2023

Eight years have passed since the end of How I Met Your Mother, but now the hit spinoff series How I Met Your Father carries the torch. The original HIMYM ran for almost a decade, so of course we’re all wondering if the new series will last as long. And it looks like we’re already off to a great start as the Hulu sitcom returns next month for its second season!

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Hulu’s “How I Met Your Father” was officially taped for season two on February 15, right in the middle of the show’s first season. This bodes well for the success of How I Met Your Father considering how the series got off to a rocky start. Hulu’s iteration is actually the second attempt at a spin-off of HIMYM.

Back in 2013, as the series wrapped, the original creative team announced plans for How I Met Your Dad that were largely unrelated to HIMYM aside from the overall storyline. Greta Gerwig was set to play the main character Sally, with Meg Ryan voicing “Future” Sally as well as Bob Saget voicing “Future” Ted. However, after conflicts between CBS and the creators over the pilot, the series was never picked up and never aired.

Even this version of How I Met Your Father (which has a few minor ties to the original series) took a while to get the green light. Co-creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger initially put the project on hold after being promoted to co-showrunners on This Is Us. It wasn’t until 2021 that the official series order and production of the first season took place at Hulu, with Aptaker and Berger still at the helm. The version currently streaming on Hulu stars Hilary Duff in the lead role of Sophie and Kim Cattrall as “Future” Sophie.

So what can we expect from the second season? Let’s take a look at all the details we have so far.
