Happy December! It’s officially the holiday season and we can’t help but be extra grateful for the gift that is each and every amazing actress making a spectacular and memorable performance in the latest movies and shows streaming now. We’re celebrating one of those laudable ladies with today’s Woman Crush Wednesday, the perfect day to talk about some of the best up-and-coming talent and veterans in top titles on your favorite platforms. This week we evoke a wonderful woman who has been making dynamic, mesmerizing and heartfelt performances for over a decade and who shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. So without further ado give it up for your WCW, the lovely Diane Guerrero!
WHO IS THIS GIRL: Diana Guerrero
WHY WE DESTROY: Guerrero continues to play Jane in the HBO Max Original title Doom Patrol, which is celebrating its first part of Season 4 on the platform this Thursday, December 8th. The superhero series follows the titular Doom Patrol, a squad of traumatized and ill-fated superheroes whose superhuman abilities came at the cost of emotional and physical scarring and disfigurement. Together, the team of oddballs and outcasts have found purpose to work together to investigate some of the world’s strangest mysteries and phenomena.
Doom Patrol: In Season 4, the Doom Patrol unexpectedly travels to the future where they face an unwelcome surprise that forces them to make the ultimate, devastating choice between their own happiness and the fate of the world. Guerrero, April Bowlby, Brendan Fraser, Matt Bomer, Joivan Wade, Michelle Gomez and Madeline Zima star in this wild ride of a series as the latest episodes come out this week, only on HBO Max.
WHERE YOU’VE SEEN THEM BEFORE: Guerrero’s professional screen career got off to a strong start in 2011 when she appeared in an episode of ABC’s medical dramedy series body of evidenceas well as in short films Ashley/Bernstein and detourand feature film festival. She then continued to expand her filmography with work on television shows Are we already there?, Blue bloodand person of interestas well as on films such as the 2012 comedy short Saved from the Pole and 2012 horror film vacancy before landing one of the roles she is best known for, as Maritza Ramos in comedy-drama series Orange is the new blackfrom 2013.
From there, Guerrero made guest appearances on episodes of shows like Taxi Brooklyn and Dora and friendsas well as earned even more recurring roles in TV series like Superior donuts, Elena of Avalor, Harvey girls forever!and especially Jane the maiden. She also started racking up even more work in feature films like 2014’s Comedy My husband is a loserDrama 2015 Peter and JohnMusical comedy 2016 Happy tasty chicken2019 animated superhero adventure Justice League vs. the Fatal Fiveand 2019 action crime drama killer man. Most recently, Guerrero appeared in episodes of Legends of Tomorrow, The Eric Andre Showand woman in the bookand has had roles in films such as the 2020 coming-of-age drama blast beat2021 secret Blood Brothers: Civil Warand 2021 animated musical fantasy comedy Encanto. Obviously, she’s already amassed quite a diverse and impressive body of work, and we can’t wait to see what she continues to pursue and create in the years to come.
WHERE YOU WILL SEE THEM AGAIN: Luckily, you won’t have to wait too long to see more from Guerrero as the actress already has an exciting project on the horizon. Keep an eye out for her as Maria Elena Holly in the upcoming musical biopic clear lake, a film chronicling Buddy Holly and a few other musicians during the early stages of the great musical and political change of the 1950s. Alongside Guerrero, Ruairi O’Connor, Colin Hanks and Nelly will also star in the highly anticipated film, which is due out in the next year or two.
