For moviegoers who love literary adaptations, 2022 was a very good year. There’s something inexplicably special about seeing the story and characters you’ve long imagined and built in your mind physically before you on the big screen, and some classic novels, best-sellers newly minted, and gripping non-fiction became films in 2022 From an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile to a film version of Where the Crawdads Sing, plenty of films made the leap from page to screen this year.
As streaming services create more and more exciting TV shows and movies, it makes sense that they would turn to fiction and nonfiction for inspiration. This year we got the new series “Heartstopper” on Netflix, which is based on the graphic novels of the same name. This streamer also gave us another season of Bridgerton, with the third due out in 2023, based on another Julia Quinn novel. On Hulu, viewers saw the limited series Under the Banner of Heaven, an adaptation of the best-selling nonfiction book and Kindred, based on the novel of the same name by Octavia E. Butler. Unfortunately, some 2022 movies we were looking forward to have been pushed back to next year, like the new Disney+ adaptation of Peter Pan, but that just means there’s more to love in the future.
