Al Roker hopes to be home soon after his recent hospitalization following complications from blood clots. The 68-year-old weatherman gave fans a health update amid his current hospitalization with a photo of a beautiful New York City sunset on his Instagram on Thursday December 8th. He revealed that seeing the beautiful view helped him feel “recharged” after being hospitalized.
Below the photo, Al included the latest health update as well as a thank you note in the caption. “Hopefully you’ll be home soon, but if your mind slacks off a little, you can see that and recharge. God bless you all for all the prayers and well wishes for me and my family,” he wrote.
The update that he is hoping to return home comes almost two weeks after he was hospitalized again with a blood clot. The anchor was reportedly taken to a hospital for treatment the day after Thanksgiving (just after he returned from his first hospitalization). After his second hospital stay, his today co-anchor Hoda Kotb announced his return during a December 1 broadcast. “We all wish Al could have been with us [to cover the Rockefeller Christmas Tree lighting], but due to some complications he is back in the hospital and he is in very good care. He’s resting and his doctors are keeping a close eye on him,” she said on the air. “Al and his family want everyone to know how grateful they are for all the love, support and well wishes.”
Al had first revealed that he had been hospitalized with blood clots Instagram Post on November 18th. “Last week I was taken to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots to my lungs. After some medical strokes, I am so fortunate to be receiving excellent medical care and on the road to recovery,” he wrote.
While he was able to leave the hospital and spend Thanksgiving with his wife and family, Al was forced to miss Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day parade for the first time in 27 years. Hoda and Savannah Guthrie Al sent her congratulations on the air, and Al posted that he was watching his Instagram.
