The Golden Globes continue to be mired in controversy as the much-anticipated nominations for this year’s awards ceremony were announced. Following this morning’s announcement, viewers were quick to react as they were furious at the two nominations for Ryan Murphy’s controversial hit series. Monsters: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer.
The series, which recently became the third series in Netflix history to surpass 1 billion viewer hours, received nominations for Best Actor in a Limited Series for Evan Peter’s portrayal of the notorious serial killer and Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for Richard Jenkins, Dahmer’s father plays.
While Monsters: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer Undeniably popular, it received backlash from many critics, particularly the families of Dahmer’s victims, who claimed they were never approached about the series.
As for the potential trophy Peters could take home next month, people took to Twitter to express their disdain at the recognition.
“Evan takes it and that’s no good,” one wrotewhile another said“I’m sorry but Dahmer, no matter what, shouldn’t win any awards, it’s a disgusting series.”
“Don’t fucking reward Evan Peters for this garbage,” a third person required.
“Evan Peters is nominated for a Golden Globe while just yesterday I saw a video of a little black girl crying and saying she was told Dahmer should have killed her,” someone else Posted. “Ryan Murphy and everyone else involved in this show will burn in hell.”
Another Twitter user wrote, “The Golden Globes may rot for this candidate… always praises serial killers.”
While public reaction was largely negative, Peters managed to keep some fans in his corner as a defender Posted“I know Dahmer was divisive, but I thought Evan Peters was excellent.”
Other tweeted that they “didn’t expect” the actor to be nominated, but added that it was “fully deserved.”
