While Trevor Noah‘s last episode of The daily News On Thursday (December 8), the comedian thanked all his correspondents, friends and fans who have stood by him over the past seven years as he took over the rostrum Jon Stewart‘s departure. Trevor, 38, also made sure to give “a special shout out to black women” in his closing remarks. “I’ve often been credited with having these great ideas. Who do you think is teaching me? Who do you think formed me, nurtured me, [and] inform me? My mother, my grandmother, my aunts, all these black women in my life.”
“If you really want to learn about America, talk to black women,” Noah continued. “Because black women, unlike everyone else, can’t afford to fiddle around and find out. Black people understand how hard it is when things go bad, especially in America, but wherever there are black people — whether it’s in Brazil, whether it’s South Africa, wherever — when things are bad, black people know it is gets worse for them. But black women in particular really know what shit is.”
“People are always shocked [and say] to me: ‘Why do black women perform the way they do in America, why do they vote [the way they do] – they know what happens when things don’t go as they should. You can’t afford to fiddle around and find out,” Trevor said. He appointed writer and professor Roxane Gay, Tressie McMillan Cottom, Zoé Tsamudzi, Tarana Burke, and other “brilliant, brilliant women” who shared their knowledge and wisdom with him.
We will miss you @Trevornoah. We will miss you. I’ll tell you a little story. When I promoted hunger, it was a shit show. Journalists had no idea how to talk about obesity. In Australia, there was a nightmarish thing involving a billionaire’s daughter. https://t.co/IHfLy2ocES

“If you really want to know what to do or how to do it, or maybe the best way or the fairest way, talk to black women,” Noah added. “Those are a lot of the reasons I’m here. So I am grateful to them.”
Trevor Noah announced on Sept. 29 seven years and a day since taking over as host The daily Newsthat he would leave the program. “Maybe that’s because you didn’t grow up in America, but I think it should all end,” Trevor said The Hollywood Reporter about his decision. “A lot of American companies and American media just say, ‘Keep going as long as you can,’ but I think it’s healthy for things to end when they’re still in a good place. I want to leave before I burn out because there are many other things I would like to do.”
