Will you hug Will Smith with open arms this weekend? He and Apple TV+ are hoping you will now that his first film since this year’s infamous Oscar smack hits the platform. But if you don’t want to forgive him just yet, there are dozens of other new releases to choose from this weekend, including a sparkling holiday rom-com on Prime Video and Guillermo del Toro’s long-awaited Pinocchio. With so many great new shows and movies to choose from, let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch and where to stream it this weekend.
New movies and shows to stream this weekend: emancipation, Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro, Something from Tiffany’s + More
Aside from the real slap drama, Antoine Fuquas emancipation has long been debated as an Oscar contender, and many thought Will Smith might win a second Best Actor statue for his work in the film about a man trying to escape slavery during the Civil War. Now that it’s available, the court of public opinion is sitting on whether he deserves our praise. Over on Prime Video, the romantic comedy Something by Tiffanypromises a light-hearted and cheerful alternative, as Zoey Deutch and Shay Mitchell star as women who are given the fake Tiffany boxes by their friends, with one of them containing an engagement ring intended for the other. Is that too capitalistic pig for you? To attempt Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro on Netflix, set in Fascist Italy on the eve of World War II. Del Toro has stated that the film, which is decidedly more mature than most other versions you know, is set at a time in history “when everyone was acting like a puppet, except puppets.”

New on Apple TV+ December 9: emancipation
Remember when Will Smith won an Oscar for King Richard? It would have been the pinnacle of a great career if it hadn’t been for the infamous slap in the face. This week marks the start of Smith’s Redemption Tour with the new Apple TV+ movie emancipation, which tells the story of an enslaved man named Peter who tries to escape from his plantation in Louisiana in order to be reunited with his family and win his freedom. The film, originally slated for an earlier release but postponed following the Smith slap controversy, co-stars Ben Foster and Charmaine Bingwa.

New to Amazon Prime Video on December 9th: Something from Tiffany’s
Raise your hand if you love a Christmas rom-com set against the backdrop of a festively lit city. There’s a reason movies like that love actually are so enduring that there’s just something about kissing under a mistletoe and feeling the love of the holiday season and the new Prime Video movie Something by Tiffany‘s could be your new favorite holiday romance. In the film, Zoey Deutch plays Rachel, who is debating whether to stay with her boyfriend Gary (Ray Nicholson). At Christmas he surprises her with a gift from Tiffany’s, but they are both shocked to see that the earrings he bought her have been replaced with an engagement ring. The mix-up causes chaos for her and the couple who the ring was meant for, Ethan and Vanessa (Kendrick Smith Sampson and Shay Mitchell), and the couples make some tough decisions about who they should eventually be with.

New on Netflix on December 9th: Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro
In a full year Pinocchio Movies, are you Team Guillermo del Toro or Team Robert Zemeckis? Both directors have left their mark on the story of a wooden toy that Geppetto, the maker of, wishes it would become real. A passion project for del Toro, the film has been in development since 2008 and features stop-motion animation by Mark Gustafson. Collaboration to capture the original source material, the 1883 Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, the film has some major (and much darker) differences from most other film adaptations. This version also features the talents of Ewan McGregor, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton and David Bradley.
