After a six-minute standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival and a viral video by Brendan Fraser tearful reaction, The whale marks the actor’s much-anticipated comeback.
Directed by Darren Aronofsky The whale follows a 600-pound reclusive English teacher, played by Fraser, who slowly eats himself to death while trying to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter, played by stranger things Star Sadie Sink.

WHERE TO SEE THE WHALE:
As of now, the only way is to see The whale is to go to a cinema when it is released on Friday December 9th. For a local demonstration see fandango. Otherwise you just have to wait for it to rent or buy on digital platforms like Vudu, Amazon, youtubeor Apple.
WHEN WILL THE WHALE BE STREAMING?
Since a digital release date hasn’t been announced yet, it’s hard to say when The whale will be available digitally. But based on previous A24 films, like After sunwe can estimate around 45 days to two months after its theatrical release, which would land in late January or early February.
After sun first hit theaters on October 21st and will be available to buy and rent on December 20th on digital platforms like Prime Video. Other films such as Everything everywhere at once became available approximately 70 days after its theatrical release.
WILL THE WHALE BE ON HBO MAX?
No, The whale will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Warner Bros. film. Last year, the company released its films on the streamer on the same day they premiered in theaters. However, they have since stopped doing so and, like many others, have begun allowing a 45-day window between theatrical debut and streaming release.
WILL THE WHALE BE ON NETFLIX?
