The production is based on the story of a real escaped slave named Peter (Will Smith) and is adapted from true events. With such an important topic, I’m sure many will be interested in watching the film. Can you find it on Netflix? Below we have the answer for you!
Is Emancipation Starring Will Smith on Netflix?
If you were hoping for the historical drama to stream on Netflix, unfortunately that’s not the case. The film is an Apple Original film, which means it can only be viewed on Apple TV+. The film will stream on December 9, 2022.
If you want to see it on the big screen, that’s an option too. Apple Studios also brought the film to theaters on December 2nd. I know it’s disappointing when a highly anticipated movie isn’t on the streaming service you’re subscribed to. But this one is definitely worth a visit if you can!
emancipation revolves around Will Smith’s character Peter, who escapes from his slaves. His faith and love for his family keeps him fighting for freedom and confronting the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana, Apple TV+ shares.
The film is based on photographs of escaped American Gordon, who was examined at a Union Army medical examination after his bare back was “mutilated by a flogging of his slaves.” Pictures of Gordon published in Harper’s Weekly in 1863 were a factor leading to growing public opposition to slavery.
emancipation begins streaming on Friday, December 9th on AppleTV+.
