The full trailer for the long-awaited Avatar sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, was released on November 2nd as her water-filled world comes to life. Set a decade later, the film follows Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully and Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri as they fell in love in the first film. A second trailer was released on December 7th featuring a new song by The Weeknd entitled “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)” which will be included on the film’s soundtrack, available December 15th.
We already know an actor who will play one of her children – Sigourney Weaver, whose original character Dr. Grace Augustine died in the original 2009 film Avatar. Weaver, 72, returns for the second film as one of the couple’s teenage children named Kiri. she said Magazine Empire on July 1st: “I think we all remember pretty clearly what we felt as teenagers. I definitely know. I was 5′ 10″ or 5′ 11″ when I was 11. I had a strong feeling that Kiri would be very uncomfortable at this time. She searches for who she is. I was thrilled to get this challenge.”
It’s been a long time since the original “Avatar” landed in theaters — over a decade, in fact. The new film is set in a future where humans who have completely depleted Earth’s natural resources travel to the fictional moon Pandora to mine for resources and wage war with the Na’vi, the moon’s inhabitants, a species of 10 – foot-sized humanoid aliens. The film became the highest grossing film of all time.
While director James Cameron’s film was slated for a sequel many years ago, production of the big-budget film has been delayed. However, the time has finally come for Avatar 2 to be seen by the world, and yes, there are more sequels in the works.
