Netflix’s breakout hit Ginny & Georgia is ready to give us all a fresh dose of drama. The streaming service announced on December 1 that the second season will debut on January 5, 2023. You won’t have to wait long to find out what’s next for Ginny and Georgia Miller, played by Antonia Gentry and Brianna Howy. The coming-of-age series follows the mother-daughter duo as they settle in Wellsbury, New England, with Georgia’s son Austin.
As Ginny grapples with the ups and downs of teenage life, Georgia realizes that her past is haunting her in a big way and threatening the new life she has built for herself and her children. Ginny & Georgia made comparisons Gilmore Girls because at the heart of the series is a nuanced and complicated mother-daughter relationship.
Along the way season 1 completed, Ginny & Georgia Season 2 will be epic and full of breathtaking moments. In addition to the release date, Netflix also revealed first photos and new footage. HollywoodLife has the latest updates on Season 2.
When is season 2 coming out?
Ginny & Georgia Season 2 will be released on January 5, 2023. The second season, consisting of 10 episodes, will premiere worldwide on the platform. Filming for Season 2 began in November 2021 and ended in April 2022.
The show was renewed in April 2021, just months after the success of the first season. Season 2 will consist of 10 brand new 60 minute episodes. Netflix has released a video of the cast celebrating the show’s renewal.
“We are so grateful for the incredible response and love you all have shown Ginny & Georgia. We are especially grateful to Brianne and Toni, who set the highest standards at every step. We can’t wait to return to Wellsbury for Season 2,” showrunner/executive producer Debra J Fisher and author/executive producer Sarah Lampert said in a statement.
What happened to Taylor Swift?
A week after the first season of Ginny & Georgia Premiered, Taylor Swift took to Twitter to call out the series for a one-liner said by Ginny. In an episode of the show, Ginny told her mother, “You move through men faster than Taylor Swift.”

Taylor tweeted: “Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and wants his lazy, deeply sexist joke back. How about we stop demeaning hard working women by defining this horse shit as funny? Also @netflix afterwards Miss Americana That outfit doesn’t look cute on you. Have a nice women’s history month, I think.”
Following the backlash, Antonia posted a lengthy message on Instagram alluding to the TSwift controversy. Part of Antonia’s message read, “I fell in love with the role of Ginny Miller because she is a character who dares to make mistakes, a character who tries her best to seamlessly connect with the world around her merge, but people keep saying no. She is one character among many on the show that draws us all in. It shows us our own prejudices, prejudices and injustices.
She continued, “She loves, she lies and she stands up for what she believes in — even though she may not have all of her facts straight. She makes mistakes — morally, mentally, physically, emotionally — and not just within herself, but in the broken world she lives in.”

Netflix announced that more than 52 million member households have chosen to watch the new coming-of-age series in its first 28 days. The show made the top 10 in 87 countries around the world and reached #1 in 46 countries including Australia, Brazil, Kenya and the US
Who is in the cast of Season 2?
The first season of Ginny & Georgia star Brianna Howy as georgia, Antonia Gentry as Ginny, Diesel La Torraca as Austin, Jennifer Robertson as Ellen, Felix Mallard as Mark, Sara Weissglas as maxi, Scott Porter as Mayor Paul Randolph and Raymond Ablack as Joe. The entire cast is expected to return for Season 2. They were all featured in the Season 2 announcement video.
Aaron Ashmore has joined the cast of the second season. He will play Austin’s father Gil in season two. Aaron is known for his role as Duncan Locke in the Netflix series lock & key.
The show’s creator and EP, Sarah LampertShe also runs the show’s official Twitter account. As of November 2021, she released behind-the-scenes photos of the production. “Now it feels really real,” she captioned a photo of Brianne and Antonia together.
As rehearsals for Season 2 began, Sarah also shared a photo of Antonia and Felix. For Ginny and Marcus fans, this photo was all. “Smiles after rehearsal,” she captioned the sweet photo.
In February 2022, Scott released a heartbreaking tribute to Ginny & Georgia camera operator Lohengrin Zapiainwho passed away in January 2022. “We’ve dedicated this season to him and he’s remembered every time we clap our sticks before a shoot,” Scott wrote Instagram. “We were so incredibly lucky to have worked with him and become his friend on this little show. He loved his family very much and we set up GoFundMe to support them during these difficult times.”
What can we expect?
The end of Ginny & Georgia Season 1 was left completely open-ended, leaving fans anxious for answers as the credits rolled. Ginny and Austin were seen driving off together on a motorcycle after Ginny’s argument with Georgia and the drama involving Marcus and her friends. Antonia reveals that she feels Ginny is taking Austin to see her father Zion.
The official synopsis for Season 2 reads: “How do you live with the knowledge that your mother is a murderer? Ginny needs to find out. Burdened with the new understanding that Kenny – her stepfather – did not die of natural causes, Ginny must now confront the fact that Georgia not only killed, but killed to protect Ginny. Georgia, on the other hand, would prefer to leave the past in the past, after all she has a wedding to plan! But the funny thing about Georgia’s past is that it never stays buried for long…”
In an exclusive video, published exclusively on Tudum, Georgia goes into her house and finds Ginny and Austin gone, as well as the remains of the wolfsbane that Ginny burned. Georgia throws a poker and bursts into tears.
“The missing piece of the puzzle suddenly slides into place and I see it. I see you. Who she really is,” says Ginny.
“We wanted to pick up the story right where we left off,” series creator and executive producer Sarah Lampert told Tudum. “We left it at such a juicy cliffhanger.” She added, “We spent all of season 1 breaking down these characters and putting them in specific places. So we wanted to honor that by picking up Season 2 just two weeks later. We went right back to where we all left emotionally at the end of season one.”
“I don’t know if you notice, but as she packs her bag, she grabs the book that Zion is giving her, and if you’ve been paying attention when Zion arrives and gives her the book, you know he’s got an address has stated . He has this secret coded message in it and she finds out it’s his address to his apartment in Boston. So I think it’s pretty reasonable to assume that Ginny might be on her way to Zion,” Antonia said TVLine.
The finale also teased the arrival of Austin’s father, Gil. Ginny sent Austin’s letter to his dad, which Georgia was clearly freaking out about. “Did you write our return address?” Georgia asked Ginny, startled.
Georgia and Mayor Paul got engaged at the end of the season, and Scott recounted it HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY that he’s looking forward to learning more of Paul’s backstory. “He went to Brown. He has an Ivy League education, and then gave it all up to travel overseas, backpacking, teaching English, and getting a feel for the world that’s very different from a lot of people trying to to find their way into politics. But then, upon his return to the States, he magically did so. What drives such a person? He is multifaceted, but still very direct and focused. So what made him like this? I’m really excited to learn more about his family and origins,” he said.
Ginny’s group of friends called MANG exploded after it was revealed that Ginny had slept with Marcus. Ginny’s relationship with Hunter ended while the situation with Marcus remained fluid at the end of Season 1. “I think Ginny’s relationship with Marcus and Hunter is a little mirror of Georgia’s relationship with Zion and Paul. I think ultimately they make different decisions,” Sarah said HollywoodLife in an EXCLUSIVE post-season interview.
