Oddly enough, John Galliano’s passion for theatricality did not come from the dressing rooms of the Royal National Theatre, where he worked while studying at Saint Martins. The true source of his inspiration was the London night clubs and their outrageous outrageousness: “The club scene was a big influence on my design. Blitz, St Moritz, Gossip, Taboo London then seemed the center of the fashionable universe. And Soho was literally gushing with ideas every night.” Knowing this, it becomes even more interesting to review Galliano’s archival images – try to guess where there are quotes from classical art, and where are greetings from the most wild parties in Britain.
