Well, we already have a lot of clues as to where The White Lotus Season 3 will take place. Mike White narrated Deadline back in September that he was considering taking the franchise to Asia next. In fact, he considered bringing the show’s only recurring character, Jennifer Coolidge, to Japan. Of course, we now know that won’t happen since Jennifer Coolidge’s character actually died in the season 2 finale.
Still, Mike White seems to have Asia on his mind. In the official HBO white lotus After the show’s Unpacking, White shared, “The first season was about money, and then season two is about sex. And I think maybe the third season would be kind of a satirical and funny look at death and eastern religion and spirituality. And it feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another lap at White Lotus.”
That’s what it sounds like The White Lotus Season 3 takes place somewhere in Asia. But who will check in?

While The White Lotus is effectively an anthology series — meaning each season is a new standalone story with a new cast of characters — creator Mike White has already shown us that he’s open to following characters across multiple seasons. Unfortunately, it’s too early to tell if anyone is out The White Lotus Season 1 or 2 will return for Season 3. However, Cameron (Theo James) and Daphne (Meghann Fahy) tease that they are planning a getaway to the Maldives next year that would take us to South Asia. Since we don’t know what happens to Tanya’s husband Greg (Jon Gries), he or someone connected to her death plot, like Portia (Haley Lu Richardson), could show up when White wants to wrap up this onscreen story. However, he seemed amused by the idea that it would be packaged off-screen in HBO’s Unpacking.
When will The White Lotus Season 3 Premiere on HBO and HBO Max?
We don’t know exactly when The White Lotus Season 3 will premiere on HBO and HBO Max, but we have a rough estimate of how long it will be.
The White Lotus Season 2 was announced in August 2021 and premiered in late October 2022. That would mean it would take around 14 months to put together a new season. So we could expect to see The White Lotus Season 3 premiered in December 2023 or January 2024.
Of course, since White has already been working on the next season, it’s possible that he’s further along with the scripts this time. That could mean that The White Lotus could premiere in fall 2023.
Either way, expect it to come back and change in about a year. (It will definitely come back before then house of the dragon.)
