Tested the Target Universal Thread crew-neck sweater +2023

Crewneck sweater with universal thread from Target

I devote quite a bit of time each week to scrolling through Target’s apparel department, which I imagine doesn’t come as a huge surprise to anyone who really knows me – maybe even to those who don’t, including the very gracious FedEx -Man who visits my house so often, we practically address each other by first names at this point. Go on! One of the perks of my shopping addiction (besides the fact that my closet now looks great 24/7) is that I have a unique way of knowing what styles are really loved by my other Target buyers. In truth, I’ve found very few Target pieces that seem to fall short of customer expectations. However, I’ve come across a few standout styles that are so great, the product actually has hundreds of rave customer reviews to its credit – most notably this Universal Thread Crewneck Pullover Sweater ($25).

The cozy crew-neck style is actually named Target’s best-selling sweater on the retailer’s website, boasting nearly 300 reviews, with customers raving about everything from the piece’s lightness and variety of colors to the comfort of the must-have Pullovers, even with one user noting that the style is so soft made her feel like she was “wearing a cozy blanket.” As any sensible shopper would, I immediately added the sweater to my digital shopping cart and after wearing it a few times I can now confirm that the Target sweater really lives up to all the hype. Read on to see my full review of this top notch style!

What I like about this Target universal thread sweater

Honestly, the biggest benefit of this sweater for me was the top’s remarkable quality and affordable price, both of which were big pluses in my book considering how quickly I traverse these types of styles. For context: Winter is probably my favorite season of the year. I love the cold, I love wearing cozy sweaters and as such I often have the habit of pulling them on as soon as the temperature drops below 70 degrees (sometimes long before that). As a result, I tend to wear out my sweaters faster than any other style in my wardrobe and am constantly forced to invest in new ones every year. While I love investing in more luxe designer and cashmere pieces every once in a while, I also appreciate having a handful of breezy, affordable sweaters that I can wear over and over again throughout the winter without fear of damaging them , stretched or even become visible too much wear and tear. This Target sweater has proven itself the Go-to style for me.

With its cotton blend composition, the sweater is super cozy and plush, with an understated and simple design highlighted by a thoughtful knit detail (which provides such a great layer of added texture) and ribbed cuff and hem accents. While the sweater comes in a variety of colors, I went with the taupe shade as I figured it would be the most versatile color to pair with my otherwise neutral wardrobe. Not only does it go beautifully with almost everything in my wardrobe, it’s also incredibly easy to dress up or dress down. I’ve already managed to wear this sweater everywhere – in my house while I’m working from home, on a brunch date with girlfriends (and paired with high-waisted jeans and knee-high boots no less), as well as on a late night out -Night cocktail experience where I updated the style with faux leather pants, black pumps and a statement evening bag. You can’t beat this kind of styling versatility—especially for just $25!

What is worth mentioning

The biggest thing to note about this sweater (and really a lot of Target’s clothes) is the size. When it comes to tops and blouses, I’m typically a medium size, with my perfect fit being in the 6-8 range depending on the material and fit of the silhouette. As outlined in Target’s sizing chart – a resource I would recommend At any time You order something online from the brand – a small is actually marked for sizes 4-6, while a medium is marked for sizes 8-10. Of course, that put me off a bit when deciding which size would be the perfect fit for me. I decided to play it safe and order a medium, thinking that a larger sweater would still be better than one that was too tight or felt too constricting. This ended up being the perfect fit for me and provided the looser and oversized look I prefer in my sweaters, especially when paired with jeans or even pants. That being said, if you’re someone who likes a cozier sweater and is undecided on the size, I would recommend going down the size.

Who is this Target sweater best for?

This sweater is ideal for anyone hoping to invest in a few more quality sweaters for winter that will not only break the bank but also offer plenty of styling options for seasons to come. The piece is thick enough to provide ample warmth, yet light enough to pair with heavier winter coats and jackets. This time of year I find I can never have enough sweaters on hand. And if (like me) you love having easy sweater styles that you can look put together with little to no effort, this Target style is a piece you’ll be reaching for all the time.
