ABC celebrates the 30th birthday of Beauty and the Beast with an epic TV spectacle starring some of Hollywood’s most incredible stars. music legend Shania Twain will play the role of Mrs. Potts in the TV special. She undergoes a complete transformation to play the wise teapot.
Shania’s Mrs. Potts costume is the definition of extravagant. Part of Shania’s skirt is shaped like a real teapot, with a spout and all. The teapot is purple and white with stunning gold detailing. Under the teapot is a purple and gold skirt.
The upper part of the costume is a fitted bodice in a beautiful shade of light blue with gold detailing. She tops off her Mrs. Potts costume with a purple and gold hat. Shania rocks blonde hair with purple highlights for her special.
Mrs. Pott’s adorable son Chip is played by Leah Abelo Perry. He also has a teacup costume. They are part of the amazing ensemble cast that includes YOU as belle, Josh Groban as the beast Martin Kurz as Lumiere, David Alan Grier than Cogsworth and more.
The role of Mrs. Potts was created by the late Angela Lansbury in the 1991 Disney animated film Beauty and the Beast. In addition to voicing the role of Mrs. Potts, Angela performed the theme song, which won the Oscar for Best Original Song. Emma Thompson played Mrs. Potts in the 2017 live-action film.
When ABC announced she’d been cast as Mrs. Potts, the country singer accepted Instagram to celebrate. “I am incredibly honored…and excited…and all the emotion (!!) to announce that I will be joining the cast of #BeautyAndTheBeast30th to play the role of my favorite character – Mrs. Potts,” she wrote . “And of course I would be remiss if I didn’t pay tribute to the iconic Angela Lansbury, I mean she IS Mrs Potts and the reason this character is so popular. To follow in the footsteps of such an icon is a great honor and I hope to live up to the part.”
Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration will feature live-action performances woven into a broadcast of the animated film. The special will air December 15 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
