SamSmithThe 30-year-old was brutally fat-shamed online, which didn’t sit well with the singer’s die-hard fans. Online trolls took to Twitter to attack Sam and her weight after the “Unholy” singer wore a fabulous glittery jumpsuit to perform at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball in London on December 10. The jumpsuit was similar to this one Harry Styles, 28, previously wore in concert. But while Harry was praised for his looks, Sam was cruelly mocked and attacked. Thankfully, Sam’s fans came to her defense, calling out the “gross” body-shaming comments on Twitter.

It’s really disgusting to keep seeing people attack Sam Smith because of their looks when there are a lot of us, myself included, who have a similar body type to hers. God forbid a queer person to dress/express uncompromisingly, apparently only skinny people are allowed.” a fan said while defending Sam being genderqueer, non-binary and using she/them pronouns.

Another fan shared a picture of Sam and Harry side by side in their respective jumpsuits and wrote, “I see a lot of people trashing Sam Smith for wearing this fabulous jumpsuit but praising Harry Styles for basically wearing the same thing. Rough.”

The double standard between Sam and Harry was noticed by one other fanwho said on Twitter: “Sam blacksmith is a gay non-binary performer who did this long before Harry, but there have been articles and tweets calling Harry a “gay icon”. Let’s not forget to mention Sam is plus size. You guys just hate gay people and fat people.”

Sam started her weight loss journey in 2015 and they continued to lose weight over the next five years. Sam showed off her incredible 50 pound weight loss The late show with Stephen Colbert in October 2020.
