The British royals may have gotten off easy in Part 1 of Netflix Harry & Meganbut a new preview teases that the gloves will be pulled off in Thursday’s Part 2. Netflix released a new trailer for Harry & Megan Part 2 this morning in which Prince Harry says straight out: “You happily lied to protect my brother. They were never willing to tell the truth to protect us.” We see BotSentinel’s Christopher Bouzy say, “They actively recruited people to spread disinformation.” Finally, Meghan Markle somberly asserts that “I don’t believe in wolves was thrown to the table. I was fed to the wolves.”
So who is this nebulous “she” trying to ruin Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s lives? And why does it feel like Prince Harry is explicitly declaring war on his brother, Prince William?
The first three episodes of the Netflix docuseries Harry & Megan focuses primarily on how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle met, fell in love and encountered an avalanche of racial opposition following their engagement. In fact, Episode 3 ends on the eve of their fairytale wedding. What’s next? Well, we know from the headlines, the Apple TV+ documentaries The me you can’t see, and her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey that the Duchess of Sussex would be driven to suicidal tendencies. We also recently learned from retired UK law enforcement officer Neil Basu that Markle has been preserved “disgusting and very real” death threats by right-wing extremists after her marriage to Prince Harry. This situation would prompt Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to publicly break with the royal family. Retiring as senior working royals, they relocated to California with their family in a transition the British tabloid derisively dubbed “Megxit.”
The trailer for Harry & Megan Part 2 begins with Prince Harry wondering aloud what would have happened to them if they had stayed. Meghan Markle is then seen revealing that her security was withdrawn while her whereabouts were well known to the public. Harry even claims they experienced “institutional gaslighting” at the time. However, the comment that has royal fans clutching their proverbial (or very real) pearls is where Prince Harry says, “You were happy to lie to protect my brother.”
Is the mysterious “she” supposed to be the British tabloids? The royal family as a whole? And what specific lies were told to protect the public image of Prince William, the current Prince of Wales and heir apparent to the British Crown? Even if Harry & Megan doesn’t go into it any further lurid rumours circulating about Prince William in recent years, it is clear that Prince Harry chose his wife and children over his brother. We’ll have to wait and see how much dirty royal laundry Prince Harry will air on Netflix. Is this as bad as it gets or just the tip of the iceberg?
