The last of us goes on TV and HBO brings the epic video game to life. The post-apocalyptic series will feature characters and storylines from the hit video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2013. The last of us was released on PlayStation 3 and instantly became one of the most popular video games of all time.
The official trailer aired on December 3rd at CCXP in Brazil and has amassed over 7 million views on YouTube in just two days. “If you believe there is no hope for the world, then why should you continue?” Bella Ramseys asks Ellie in the trailer. Pedro Pascal‘s Joel replies, “You haven’t seen the world, you don’t know. You carry on for the family.” Ellie asks, “I’m not family?” Joel says, “You’re cargo.” The two-minute trailer ends with a glimpse of a terrifying monster.
A nearly 2-minute teaser trailer was released on September 26th. Most of the teaser just doesn’t contain any dialogue Hank Williams’ Alone and Abandoned is playing. Someone tells Pedros Joel, “Save who you can save,” in the final moments of the teaser.

Where and when can I watch The last of us TV series?
The last of us premieres Jan. 15, 2023 at 9 p.m. ET. The show airs on HBO and is available to stream on HBOMax. It will not be available on Netflix or any other streaming service. Originally the show was supposed to start in 2022, but then HBO Programming Chief Casey Bloys clarified that it would be postponed to 2023.”The last of us is currently filming in Canada. We haven’t announced a broadcast date yet,” he said The Hollywood Reporter in February 2022. “But it’s not 2022. They’re still shooting in Calgary.”
Craig Mazinwho developed the show on the side Neil Druckman, revealed on a podcast in July 2021 that the series will consist of ten episodes. Each episode will be around an hour long, Craig said, meaning the show’s total runtime will be 10 hours long.

- Pedro Pascal is Joel tasked with smuggling a young girl named Ellie out of the post-apocalyptic United States. Pedro filmed the show following the release of the second season of his popular war of stars series The Mandalorian. He reportedly received several big offers from networks and streamers for various projects, and he eventually went for it The last of us. Mahershala Ali and Matthew McConaughey were supposedly in the mix to play Joel. Pedro was officially cast in the lead role in February 2021.

The supporting cast of The last of us contains Merle Dandridge as Marlene, the leader of the resistance movement called Fireflies. She voiced this role in the video game. Jeffrey Piercewho voiced Tommy in the video game plays Perry, a quarantined rebel. Anna Torv from edge area will appear as Tess, Joel’s smuggling partner.
The guest cast includes Thandiwe Newtons daughter Nico Parker (dumbo) as Sarah, Joel’s daughter; Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) as Frank, a survivor; Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) as Bill, a survivor; and Storm Reid (euphoria) as Riley, an orphan girl living in post-apocalyptic Boston.
Other cast members include Melanie Lynsky as Kathleen, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Keivonn Woodard as sam, Graham Green as Marlon and Elaine Miles as Florence. Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker also star.
What can we expect from the story?
The official synopsis of the series reads: “The last of us The story takes place twenty years after the destruction of modern civilization. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle out Ellie, a 14-year-old girl from an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon turns into a brutal, heartbreaking journey, how they both must traverse the USA and depend on each other for survival.”
Creator Neil Druckmann narrates IGN that some of the storylines will “deviate heavily” from the events of the video game. “Some of my favorite episodes so far have deviated greatly from the story and I can’t wait for people to see them,” he said. One confirmed change is that the show’s breakout will take place in 2003 as opposed to the video game where it takes place in 2013.
Lead actor Pedro Pascal also teased the HBO series in an interview GQ in April 2022. “There’s a very, very creative way of honoring what’s important and also preserving what’s iconic to the video game experience and also things you wouldn’t necessarily expect,” said he. “And then directions that you would expect would go, and maybe not… they’re doing some really smart things is all I can say.” It’s in good hands because they [Craig and Neil] love it so much So it’s really made for the people who love it. And there’s a very intense storytelling for people who might be less familiar.”
A second season of The last of us has yet to be ordered by HBO, although that is likely to happen, assuming season one goes well.
Who is the creative team?
Craig Mazin and Neil Druckman are the developers and authors of The last of us tv show. Craig is best known for creating the Emmy Award-winning HBO miniseries Chernobyl. Neil helped create and direct The last of us video game. In conversation with Weekly entertainment In June 2020, Neil spoke about adapting the game for television.
“With television, you have to figure out how it communicates ideas or tells stories. If you remove the story’s interactivity, how do you make it unique to this other medium?” he said. “It’s an interesting challenge and I think there’s a lot to learn from it.”
Gustavo Santaolalla will compose the soundtrack for the HBO series, just as he did for the video game. Kantemir Balagov directs the first episode of the series. The camera crew includes Ksenia Sereda, Eben Bolter, and Christine A. Maierand Nadim Karlsen. Executive producers include Craig, Neil, Caroline Strauss, rose lamb, Evan Wells, Asad Qizilbashand Carter Swan.
