After the release of Netflix‘s bombastic docuseries Harry & Meghan, The BBC journalist who interviewed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after announcing their engagement has responded to Meghan Markle’s accusation that the interview was an “orchestrated reality show”.
As I speak on BBC 4 Today, Mishal Husain said, “We know memories can vary on this particular subject, but my memory is definitely very strong: asked for an interview and did the interview,” per meeting.
The comment came after Meghan presented her own recollection of the 2017 interview in the third installment of their new docuseries, in which the couple retells their story and addresses their decision to step down as working royals.
“It was, you know, rehearsed,” she said. “So we sorted out the press thing and then we went straight in, took off the coat, sat down and did the interview. So it was all at the same moment.”
She continued, “Yeah, but also like, ‘Then there’s going to be a moment when they want to see the ring, so show the ring,'” before later pointing out, “We weren’t allowed to tell our story because they weren’t.” wanted to [it].”
Meanwhile, Prince Harry chimed in, saying: “We were never allowed to tell our story,” adding that that was “the consistency”.
The highly-anticipated docuseries, which is sure to cause a stir within the royal family, comes after months of speculation. It was rumored to be pushed back to early 2023 due to backlash from another Netflix royal title – The crown – and his portrayal of certain situations within the monarchy. However, the streaming platform surprised viewers earlier this month with a teaser and a release date much earlier than reported.
The first three episodes of Harry & Megan currently streaming on Netflix. You can watch the final episodes when they release on December 15th.
