Christine Brown officially left Kody Brown on the last week sister wivesbut on the December 4 episode, he was struggling with some problems in his marriage Janelle Brown. Leading up to the episode, the two disagreed over Janelle’s decision to rent an RV to live on the family’s Coyote Pass property while they waited to build there. In the meantime, Kody wanted Janelle to rent or buy another apartment instead of staying in the RV. Also, there has been months of tension between Kody and his sons with Janelle, gift and garrisonabout Kody’s strict COVID-19 rules.
Just before the 2021 holiday season, Kody and Janelle got together to discuss their plans. Janelle brought up Kody’s tensions with Gabe and Garrison and he pointed out that it was her treatment of his other wife that Robyn Brown, that actually caused the distance. “I got some messages from Gabe and Garrison that basically blame me for what’s going on with the family,” Robyn explained in a confessional. Kody told Janelle, “Some family members are not ready to accept other family members or to communicate with other family members. i have someone in my life [Robyn] who is fundamentally loyal to me, who sees me as the head of the family.”
Janelle was taken aback by Kody’s comments and took them in such a way that he just wanted her to be more like Robyn. On the other hand, he insisted that he simply wanted loyalty from Janelle. “It frustrates me beyond belief that he would perceive this one woman as perfect as a saint who has been so kind to us and treated so badly,” Janelle said. “Kody set a broken record in that regard. Robyn was bullied. I do not think so.”
The conversation then turned to Kody, who accused Janelle of living like a “single woman” as opposed to someone married to him. “I enjoy the independence,” Janelle admitted. “I don’t know how it started, but I’m enjoying it. I feel like we kind of lost something.”
As Kody continued to try to push Janelle toward loyalty, he came to a realization. “Maybe that doesn’t fit so well,” he told her. “Maybe that won’t work.” Janelle explained that she felt loyal. She said she felt like the “rules” were changing because Kody has always encouraged her to be independent in the past. “I never thought I would ever be in a place where I would question my relationship,” Janelle added in a confessional. “But in recent years I’ve started to wonder if we’re not compatible anymore. Maybe this doesn’t work for me anymore. I don’t know if you can suddenly change the way our relationship has been for 30 years. Maybe that’s a sign that it’s just not going anymore. I’m not one to throw in the towel in a marriage, but it almost seems like this chasm exists and I can’t let it go [what he wants].”
Janelle told Kody that he was her “best friend” and the person she tells everything to, and Kody admitted he didn’t want to lose another woman like he had lost Christine. “I feel like I have to do whatever it takes to make this work,” Janelle shared. “I’m not even sure if it’s possible to come back from where we are.”
Kody brought up Janelle’s decision to buy the RV without asking him, as well as other things that had bothered him in their relationship. She was “pissed” by his accusations but told him she wanted to stay to repair their relationship. “I think we’re at a very logical point,” Janelle told Kody. “Our kids are leaving and I look at you like… maybe we should have a better relationship.” Kody agreed and they seemed to end the conversation in a good place. The show will continue with another episode on December 11th.
