Despite rumors of a fallout, Meghan Markle and Jessica Mulroney are still close. On December 8, the first installment of Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, premiered, and while Mulroney doesn’t appear as one of the talking heads herself in the first three episodes, she is in a few of them contain the footage.
While Markle and Mulroney’s reps didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment, according to POPSUGAR entertainment tonightthe Duchess of Sussex is reportedly staying “faithful to her dear friend” following Mulroney’s 2020 controversy with Sasha Exeter. By The cut, Exeter claimed Mulroney allegedly tried to threaten her livelihood and silence her. In a video, Exeter explained how Mulroney reportedly took notice of a general call to action that Exeter had addressed to her because Mulroney had not posted anything on Instagram related to the Black Lives Matter movement. Exeter claimed Mulroney attacked her over messages and texts and allegedly threatened to speak to her sponsors.
Of Markle and Mulroney’s friendship, a source told ET, “…while Jessica’s comments were misguided and unmusical, Meghan hasn’t given up on them.” In a previous, since-deleted post obtained by ET, Mulroney addressed the status of her and Markle’s friendship, saying, “I’m going to say this once and for all, Meghan and I are family. She is the nicest friend and has checked Approaches me every day. Tabloid culture sucks. She creates lies and hurtful stories. Stop eating yourself into it. Finished.”
The insider also told ET, “Jessica has publicly apologized for the controversy and has been on a path to bettering herself and becoming aware of the unconscious bias that exists in society.”
Markle and Mulroney first hit it off after Markle moved from LA to Toronto to film her US show Suits, and they struck up an instant friendship. Mulroney even served as a bridesmaid at Markle’s wedding to Harry in May 2018, as did all three of their children, daughter Isabel and twins Brian and John.
