After years of others trying to tell their story for them, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are finally setting the record in their new documentary series Harry & Meghan, which aired its first three episodes on Netflix on December 8.
Last week, two short trailers teased what would be revealed in the highly-anticipated document, including beautiful behind-the-scenes photos giving a glimpse of the Sussexes’ courtship, personal video diaries from Harry and Markle, and never-before-seen job interviews. Liz Garbus, who directs the documentaries, asks Harry, “Why did you want to do this documentary?” at one point. He replied: “Nobody knows what happens behind closed doors. I had to do everything to protect my family.”
In the first three episodes, which premiered December 8 (the back half of the season premieres December 15), the Sussexes did just that. Harry and Markle revealed intimate details about their childhood, how their love story began, and how the fairy tale came to be their secret courtship was finally rocked when their relationship became public knowledge and they were forced to continue their love story amid a barrage of racist media coverage.
