Ashanti opens up about Nelly relationship after ‘Body On Me’ performance – Hollywood Life +2023

Ashanti appeared on the December 13 episode of See what’s happening live with Andy Cohen and talked about her reunion with ex, Nelly, at a concert in Arizona earlier this month. A fan called and asked how Ashanti was feeling about the reaction to the steamy performance, which saw the two sing their 2008 hit “Body On Me.” The caller also indicated that fans are hoping Ashanti and Nelly will be next Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopezwho recently got married after nearly 20 years of separation.

Ashanti couldn’t help but snap over the question. “Oh my god,” she said. “I saw a lot of comments. My reaction was… wow. There were a lot of comments and a lot of people wanted that.” She then confirmed where her relationship with Nelly is today. “What I want to say is that we are in a better place,” Ashanti stated. “Because it was like that before [*punching*]. We’re having some conversations [now]. So it was cool.” When Andy Cohen asked, “But you guys aren’t getting back together?” Ashanti didn’t rule out the possibility either. “I mean, I don’t know…” she said before stopping with laughter.

Nelly and Ashanti met in early 2003 and eventually started dating. They were together for ten years before breaking up. The pair reunited back in September 2021 after not seeing each other for several years when they both performed on stage yes rule and Fat Joe’s Verzuz Battle. Nelly ran over and hugged Ashanti during the performance. “When I saw him come across the stage I was like, oh. And it was so weird because we haven’t seen or spoken to each other in over six years. So it was a weird feeling,” Ashanti admitted The Tamron Hall Show. “It was so long ago that I didn’t know how to feel or what I would feel when I saw him.”

In a subsequent interview, Ashanti shared that she had no idea Nelly would be in Verzuz when she agreed to take part. She admitted seeing her ex at the event was “a little awkward” and “very unexpected.”

Ashanti and Nelly haven’t spoken much publicly about their split, but she admitted in 2015 that a betrayal led to the split. “I think sometimes when people have their own insecurities, it allows them to act out of character. I was cheated on,” she shared. “I’m not a big fan of people who are cowards. I’m in a different place now.”
