Cher rose to fame in the mid-1960s as part of the Sonny & Cher duo Sonny Bono, whom she married in 1969. After her marriage – and with it her group – ended in 1975, Cher continued to focus on her solo career, which had already flourished while she sang with Sonny. She also dove into the film industry and was lauded as an actress who brought home three Golden Globes to place alongside her Grammy over the course of her still thriving career. However, Cher hasn’t always had the life of glitz and glamor. Georgia has been married eight times
Cher’s mother was first married at age 17 and walked down the aisle seven more times with six different men over the course of her life. This was partly because she was taught that she could only have sex with a man if she was married to him, so she made a strong commitment, which she revealed in an interview with abc news in 2013. “I’ve been married a lot, but I didn’t stay married very long because I didn’t seem able to pick someone who was a stable man,” she noted in a 2013 interview with HuffPost.

Georgia had heavy maternal guilt
Georgia had two children: Cher and Cher’s younger sibling, an actress Georganne LaPiere. Georgia had to work long hours to support her family and she admitted that she felt a great deal of guilt for her mother when she had to leave her. “I think I’ll probably have to go out and work and leave her alone to get to school [was the hardest part of being a mom],” She said HuffPost. “I had prepared their lunches and prepared everything for their breakfasts, but sometimes I had to leave before they went to school. That was really tough. I worried about her. I was really strict. However, she said she made it and she always made sure her little girls enjoyed life as much as possible. “There are many things you can do that don’t require a lot of money. We went to the drive-in theater, which was a dollar, and we made food to take to the drive-in theater. That was a big thrill,” Georgia recalled. “On her birthdays we had two trees in the front yard and I hung suction cups on one tree and balloons on the other. We would invite all the children from the neighborhood. They had fun, I know that.”
Georgia almost aborted Cher

Georgia is apparently deceased
Cher shared a tweet on Dec. 10 that read, “Mom’s gone” — which many fans take to mean that Georgia sadly passed away. The apparent news comes after the 96-year-old battled pneumonia earlier this year. “I’m sorry I was Mia. Mom got sick. She just got out of hosp. She had pneumonia,” Cher tweeted in September.
