Sun Drops were already on everyone’s lips last summer. Now the beauty hype is burgeoning again and everyone is asking themselves: is it worth it?

It sounds too good to be true: The latest beauty hype Sun Drops can be easily mixed into the light, tried-and-tested day care and provides sufficient sun protection. But what is behind the trend and how well can it work at all? We once dealt with the topic in more detail – and came to a sobering conclusion.

Sun Drops: what’s behind the beauty hype?

Sun Drops – a catchy term, easy to use and supposedly great effect. Men and women should be able to spice up their daily care routine with just a few drops of the product. Because instead of reaching for a rich, often oily sunscreen for the face, you can apply Sun Drops with a sun protection factor of up to 50 pure or mix them into your usual day care. At least that’s the promise. Unfortunately, important information that many good cosmetics producers add is usually lost on the way to the consumer: the sun protection factor is variable. This means that if you mix Sun Drops with day care, the protection factor is reduced by an unknown amount. Here lies the first problem: How exactly do Sun Drops react with all those of the many day creams on the market and which sun protection factor really ends up on your skin? Nobody knows. Most likely not enough.

Prefer to use Sun Drops pure?

If you use the Sun Drops pure, you have at least eliminated one source of error. Mixing it with other products reduces the sun protection factor by an unknown and indeterminate amount. They are therefore definitely preferable on their own. The question still remains: How many Sun Drops are needed, so that you have provided your entire face (and ideally also your neck and décolleté) with sun protection? Normally we like to orientate ourselves on the information provided by the manufacturers. These vary and are usually three to five drops. That doesn’t sound like much. In fact, some skepticism might be appropriate here. After all, it is important to be able to cover at least the entire face with it. This is the only way we can ideally protect the whole face. Ultimately, only you can decide or find out for yourself whether the specified amount is sufficient to be applied over a large area. Finally, it depends on the consistency of the Sun Drops, the size of your face, and other variables.

Are there sensible alternatives to the Sun Drops?

Anyone who finds Sun Drops particularly exciting because they can be ideally integrated into their own skin care routine may well pay attention to another product and finally find what they are looking for. Because with a tinted sunscreen, both summer and winter, the two steps (care and sun protection) can be combined into one. My colleague took a closer look at tinted sunscreen and various types and put together a great selection. Check out her article if you’re interested.

One of the favorite products is the “RosaMin tinted day care” by Dermasence with a sun protection factor of 50.

Still curious?

Would you still like to try the Sun Drops and form your own opinion? We can understand that. We’ve found two products that might be worth trying, given the sources of error outlined.
