Shampoo against greasy hair
How to wash greasy hair properly?
Barely washed and your hair is already sticking straggly and flat to your head? Hair that becomes greasy quickly can be counteracted with the right care routine. We introduce you to the best shampoos for oily hair.
If the scalp is greasy, the hair will quickly look unkempt. Although the hair was washed thoroughly, only a short time later an oily approach adorned our head instead of the desired silky, shiny mane. Thorough washing is not always enough. You need the right shampoo! Namely the one that frees the roots and scalp from excess sebum. Active ingredients like Nettle, mint or citrus fruits are appropriate here.
Causes of oily hair
Why does some people’s hair become greasy faster than others? The cause is one increased sebum function. Sebaceous glands coat the scalp and hair with an oily secretion called sebum (tallow). That’s actually a good thing per se. Because sebum protects the scalp from drying out and prevents bacteria or viruses from damaging the scalp. As a moisturizing good, it serves as a kind of Protective coat for skin and hair. However, if there is too much of it, the hair becomes greasy more quickly. Ergo: A shampoo against greasy hair is needed that brings the scalp back into balance. But why are the sebaceous glands running at full speed in some of us? There are various reasons:
- hormonal changes
- stress
- Unhealthy diet
- Hair care products that are not designed for the needs of your scalp and hair
- medication

Wash greasy hair properly: Here’s how
If you have found the right care for your hair, the most important task is actually already done. So that you can get the best out of your care, you should avoid mistakes when washing your hair. Here are the most important tips at a glance:
- In contrast to conditioners, treatments and the like, shampoo should clean and not care. It is therefore essential that you apply shampoo primarily to the scalp. Massage it in thoroughly to help remove dirt, sebum and product residue.
- Use a conditioner after every hair wash. The shampoo opens the cuticle of the hair to wash out sebum. Afterwards, however, it must be closed again, otherwise the tips and lengths will dry out. The conditioner is used for this. But only apply it to the tips and lengths, otherwise the roots will quickly become greasy.
- Always wash your hair with you lukewarm water. Cold water does not adequately remove dirt and sebum, while hot water dries out the hair and scalp.
More tips against greasy hair
- It doesn’t always have to be a hair wash. With a slightly greasy approach, you can from time to time dry shampoo to grab. It literally soaks up the sebum.
- Don’t touch your hair all the time. This can also promote oily hair.
- Grab one boar bristle brush. That sounds strange at first, but it is a wonderful tool against greasy hair. The natural bristles simply comb out dirt and sebum. Because the bristles absorb sebum, you should wash the brush once a week with water and a little shampoo. Otherwise, you’ll be brushing the sebum back into your hair.
- You don’t have to go outside today? Then you can do your hair too let fat. Feel free to give your hair a few days rest. Because even frequent washing puts a strain on our scalp.
